VAR thread 2022/23

It’s what the said when it first came in.

It’s another one of these areas that people can decide that is happening with no proof.
Their is no proof EITHER way. Those running VAR can say ANYTHING because they are essentially a self-licking lolly pop with no truly independent oversight or scrutiny.

Also, I bet there have been loads of times when the tech has failed or not been working and they've just guessed. The one that instantly springs to mind is the Dipper's game at Klanfield when Salad scored their second from a clear offside. No way VAR was working that day (certainly in the First Half). We'll just never know because they just seem to either say f*ck all or just lie about it.

And there is the real problem.

In the old days the referee was the only person responsible for the decisions, it was there for everyone to see.

Now the key decisions are happening behind closed doors and the people doing so are not accountable.

Its allowed results to be manipulated according to whatever agenda is required at the time.

We can't believe in what we are seeing infront of us, it is clearly being manipulated and its killed the game as far as I'm concerned.

Might as well be WWF.

Indeed. Therefore you either accept it or you don’t, depending on your level of scepticism.

Your Salah example is apt. We don’t know if VAR was working or not. Even if it was, it’s likely to have been manipulated.

All because the decision didn’t go our way.

This is the issue. People feel as though it’s bent. They don’t need proof. They can simply “see“ it.

I’m not sure what a wildlife charity has got to do with things.

They certainly never put any lines on the TV for the Salah goal which leads me to believe that VAR was inoperative.

Miraculously they found their line drawing machine in the second half, but still claimed VAR was fully functional all game.

I can’t comment definitively because I don’t know what the issue was that day, if there was one.

Whenever a marginal call goes against your team, it’s natural to feel aggrieved and question corruption. It doesn’t mean there is any.

That's the problem, NOBODY knows (apart from the operators on the day) because there isn't any independent scrutiny, and it isn't in the interest of VAR to tell us one way or the other. They can essentially claim anything with absolute impunity (including calls during the game).

The Salah offside wasn't even close to marginal. Plus, there have been loads of questionable VAR calls across all teams, so it's not a blue tinted glasses issue.

So, in conclusion, a person’s view on VAR is pendent on their outlook on life.

Graduates of the University of Life and Facebook believe everything in life is corrupt and directly against them.

Whereas people with a more open minded approach think that VAR isn’t perfect and could be improved greatly, but isn’t a tool used to manipulate the game to any significant level.
