VAR (PL introduction 2019)

If VAR hadn’t been introduced in the World Cup in the summer the PL may have been able to get away with not having it this season without much scrutiny...

But now every supporter, or even just causal watcher of PL matches, will instinctually react to each bad call with “well, that’s see what VAR makes off it”, before then almost immediately realising there is no VAR (a reaction repeated over and over again).

The PL and FA are going to be under immense pressure by the next season to implement it. I would not be surprised to see Sky creating a “If VAR was Implemented” weekly review of incidents, similar to (and replacing) Ref Watch, to take the pressure off the ref (and cover for some corruption and incompetence) and focus on the absence of VAR.

Agreed. VAR wont solve everything, but the outright corruption will no longer be possible. CL Quarter: with VAR, there is no Salah opening goal, Jesus's "offside goal counts, Sterling almost certainly gets a penalty and Sane's goal stands. That said, Firmino's stone dead red would still not have been given and VAR wouldn't have saved our bus.

It would not have stopped liverpool`s two offside goals yesterday VAR requires someone with honesty viewing it just like an appeal, and we know how that goes?

Champions League plans to use VAR

Uefa is aiming to introduce video assistant referees from the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season after being impressed by its use during the World Cup in Russia.

Looks like our chances of winning the Champions League are about to go through the roof. One year too late, maybe, but a welcome change.

Sound about right - is this the earliest point we can draw Liverpool?

How can they deem it more important to get the decisions correct once at the Qtr final stage - wronged teams could already be out by then.

Just when you thought they couldn't dis-credit the competition further.

Boooooooooooo................

Not even a snip of video attached to a red hot poker and inserted into the collective FA and PL rectum would impress the people who govern the game in this country. Too many vested interests in the current free for Rags and Dippers system.

implementing it slowly and correctly, will come into force for the Prem within a couple of years - it's a huge change for the game so better to get this right rather than rush it in.

They'll be doing it then because at the 1/4 final stage all the teams involved will already have VAR set ups. All the grounds in the top 5 leagues have it this season.

After this season it'll be from the whole tournament. They can't introduce it from the beginning this season because it's too late notice.

This doesn't discredit UEFA or the CL at all.

The Premier League is bringing it in next season. All the grounds have it, and they're doing test runs at PL games all season behind the scenes.
