What size were they? Just wondering if they were a "large" kids size that could be seen also as a small adult size.

Got mine in store ...

Used the stories above as reference as thought there may be a exception to the rules on replica tops but looking at those stories you are right to question why you have paid vat

Get In touch with the club and post back m8, probably be a few thousand wanting a refund if they are charging vat on kids stuff,,, I used my season ticket so they will have a record of my purchase

One was xs (6-7) and the other was sb (8-9) I got caught out with the xs one which was £42 ( basic) I could have bought the away kit in size 6-7 ( shirt , shorts and socks ) for £38 (basic)

Right, you definitely need to query that with the club, is it Kitbag who still handle the online orders?

Just sent them a email will let you know there answer tomorrow

Its not just football shirts we are foster carers and we had a young girl living with us 14 year old quite a big girl, when we bought her a school sweat shirt we also got charged VAT they said after a certain size they become VAT payable, its a school uniform it should be zero rated are we all being ripped off.

Just thought I would let you know that I have heard nothing from kitbag so we will see what tomorrow brings

VAT (20% in the UK) is normally charged on any item of clothing as follows...

Shoes over and including size 7

Shirts over and including Small Mens or 34", so SB, B, and LB should be VAT Free.

Shorts over and including 30" waist.

HTH.

I just used the online shop to pretend to order 2x "small" kids home shirts - checkout price is showing as £84 + postage (seems right to me - £42 each)

That said, I also had a look around the internet - even HMRC site says you should be charged VAT at "zero rate" on kids clothes up to a certain size (generally 14years old as per their size guidance, with some exceptions....zzz)

As far as I understand......"Zero rate VAT" is different to VAT free - they have to record the sale at "Zero VAT rate" for VAT purposes - it's different to "no VAT" or "VAT free", but has the same effect on the total cost of an item as not applying VAT at all...zzzzzzzz.........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The £17.09 isn't even the correct VAT at 20% for £84, it should be £16.80 and....£84+£17.09 = £101.09, not £102.51 - something very wrong with those figures.....

If 20% VAT had been applied it should be £84+16.80=£100.80

It came to £102.51 with gold badges and hazel 7 and beth 9 on them ,there was free postage and i used a 10% off code . The kids are only 6 and 8 at the moment but my kids when they turn 7 and 9 will not were a shirt with younger ages on them.

Yep, it was them that did it. 20%. what a rip off. While the rich fuckers hide there money offshore. Tax avoiding parasites.

Without derailing this thread, this is exactly why we have VAT. You cannot dodge it in the same way as tax. If you buy something everybody has to pay it even if like Ric, your money is hidden in a Swiss bank account.
