Veganism

No experience in farming, or not going back or both ?

No physical experience in farming (if you think that somehow helps your argument) but, I meant not going back. Why would I want any living thing to remain in the darwinian hell hole? We are the only chance the rest of the biosphere has.

So should we wipe out say African hunting dogs, they pursue their prey relentlessly before ripping them apart that's a shit way to go, if so where does it end ? If your match going have a pint with me, I'm not looking to help my argument with your lack of experience, just explain that there of two sides to the coin.

Wiping out is different from allowing to go extinct, but do you seriously envision a future where we allow such barbarity to continue? In the name of... what? If we can help them, we would, if we have to retire certain species we should. Can you explain the 2 sides of the coin a bit more?

The planet has a very complex and diverse eco system that does quite a good job balancing it's self out (man being the biggest imbalance in my view) ethnics and sustainability sould be at the forefront of our thinking, we have evolved as omnivorous, some animals have evolved as herbivores, some as carnivorous, let's try to not fuck the balance up, look what happened with cane toads in Australia.

Isn't it true that 99.9% of all species that have ever existed have gone extinct? This argument is weak Andy.. if we want to ensure our survival, it needn't entail farming, destroying and consuming other animals. 'Ethics' is kind of a big deal. If you don't have to cause unnecessary harm then why would you? Is there a rational answer to that? And 'because cooked animal flesh tastes nice' won't cut it. It's like what SWP said earlier.. what's the point in life? christ.. is this the only point you can muster? your own satiation no matter the cost?

^ Some might, some won't. We don't know if silk worms feel pain, we don't know if insects feel pain, but if we're not going to sweep the path in front of us lest we step on a beetle, (like the Jains do) we can at least err on the side of caution. Veganism is: a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.

If only they could talk eh?

Just watched Ducks Quacks Don't Echo.

Plants protect themselves from being eaten. When they sense that insects are eating them the release chemicals of a nasty taste.

you bastards

Potatoes produce a yum yum eat me kind of chemical.
You need to be careful with them fuckers :

Plants aren't subjects of experience. They have no brains, no nervous system, so there is no need to worry about eating them, no need to nudge in some sort of animism.

Do vegans wear silk?

I've seen young girls in carpet factories in Turkey going through the whole process, utterly fascinating.
Silk worms only eat mulberry leaves, apparently, and they're boiled alive to halt development, so the silk can be
harvested. A marvellous material is silk, ancient Chinese warriors, and Mongols used silk underwear as protection
against arrows.
Anyway, the bacon sarnies are nearly ready.

Actually some research suggests they do smell, hear and have some sense of perception, making them a living thing, just because they ain't fluffy and able to be controled as a pet doesn't mean they are not murdered by vegans just as much as vegans consider omnivores murder animals.

Both animals and plants are alive eating either is killing a living thing, but we need to eat to live, It's kiling animals for sport that is wrong.

They are living organisms in a biological sense. The key distinctions are that they can't feel pain, and they're not conscious (not subjects of experience). We have absolutely no reason to give plants ethical consideration. Throwing around the word 'murder' is completely unwarranted.

Why there are poster on bus stops round town calling meat eaters butcherers, killers, abusers, and it's true that meat eaters are eating a former living organism, plants are also living organisms.

Each to their own imho if you don't want to eat meat or animal products then don't, if you do then do, but make sure it's properly farmed in a humane way and also killed properly not with suffering.

But that's each persons choice I would never look at someone detrementally because they eat chicken or lamb etc.
