We've missed a trick there.

Ajax close to deal with Tottenham over Jan Vertonghen

By David Ornstein
BBC Sport
Dutch champions Ajax hope to reach a swift agreement with Tottenham over the sale of captain Jan Vertonghen.
Spurs have seen two bids rejected as Ajax seek 15m euros (£12m) for the 25-year-old Belgium centre-back, who has a year left on his contract.
"We hope to make a deal quite soon," an Ajax spokesman told BBC Sport. "Jan deserves a move to a big league and wants to join Spurs.
"But he has a price and that's what we're talking about with Tottenham."
More to follow.

We had our chance and the scouts watched him, Mancini just must not rate him enough or has other targets (like Martinez). Great signing for Spurs though.

Confirmed by Vertonghen himself, Fucking Lol! Now Dax can piss off to GloryGlory.

Sorry if I've missed the joke but why should Dax piss off anywhere? He's a great contributor to this forum.

Let's see how he fares over here before deciding whether or not we've missed a trick, too.

Great contributor? What, like blabbering on about all his dream signings and telling people how he scouts all over the world when in fact he's just a YouTube specialist?

I'd put Vertonghen in the 3rd tier of CB's in world football. If Komps, Vidic and Silva are world class and Pepe, Hummels, Chiellini are next level bellow. Then Vertonghen, Vermaelan, Coloccini etc are the 3rd tier.

Good player who will no doubt strengthen them but not a move that makes me shit my pants and declare Spuds favourites for the title... Just a good player joining a good side, No biggie.

Not many truly world class central defenders out there now - hope Mancini has one up his sleeve......................

Your 3rd tier is better than the 2nd tier.

I don't know if City was ever interested in him, but we've not missed a trick if the only club he wants to go is to the Spurs..why that is, i've no idea..
According to news reports, It was only when Spurs were dragging their feet, like they always do, with the transfer, that he said that he would consider moving to Arsenal if Spurs didn't want him.. that obviously has forced the Spurs to make their move..

Remember, these are the guys who are trying to get Adebayor for 8mil when other clubs are willing to offer 12-15mil and more for him..

So? By following this passion, at least he lets other City fans know about potential players that can be world-class, people we would otherwise never hear about..
Even actual scouts who see the players on the field can get it wrong..Bebe would be a prime example..

I guess i just haven't seen enough of Pepe because i only watch Real Madrid when they play champions league or against Barca and he either plays terrible or gets sent off in those games. Chiellini and Hummels are proven in better leagues than Vertonghen i suppose but i rate Vermaelan and Collocini in the same bracket as them.
