Puppet Master Silva said:I do wonder if we set out to exploit the lack of familiarity between Moreno and Lovren beforehand or if it was something that developed as the game went on. for the first 35-40 minutes we attempted a lot of balls over the top that just weren't coming off, but at the same time it's in our DNA now to try and get in behind the fullbacks at the Etihad, we're one of the best teams in the world at doing so. If we chose to target Moreno and Lovren then, in hindsight it was a very clever move on our behalf.
Whatever the case Pellegrini was smart to bring on Navas for Silva when he did. He noticed Moreno starting to get more up field and combine with with Markovic on the wing when he came in. He wanted to keep Moreno honest and deal with Navas' speed. The 3rd goal was no fluke. As soon as Sergio came on it was exploited to perfection.
