Very good news about Nike

So what we want is better quality shirts, for a cheaper price, and Nike to pay us more for the pleasure? Whilst we're all acknowledging that City's shirt sales are much smaller than other top clubs

I, for one, am delighted that the world's top sportswear brand has chosen to snub United and back City. I know it's not in our nature to support global commercialisation, but its the only way we can compete at the highest level and the only way to achieve the club's long term goals. I think the Nike kits have the broadest appeal around the world, especially in the US where our brand could really take off.

Maybe some time in the future we'll be a big enough brand to get better value for money, but I think that for now our current kit deal is bang on
That's a pretty swish post.

Any stats on how many shirts we sell and how much the rivals? Last time I saw an article about sale shirts somewhere it said its a myth that top clubs sell lot millions of shirts per year its closer to 1-2m per year even for the top brands like Real, United etc.
And Asia is the biggest market for shirts, saw earlier some stats one of the highest shirt seller at United is Kagawa!

Of course lot of fake shirt that are at least 5 times cheaper could be sold in lot bigger numbers but those arent even original nike/adidas etc products or just simply fakes but people still buy them surely.
But dont know how clubs or Nike/Adidas has any income of those probably they dont have any.

I totally agree about the white shorts but there must be some reason that they switch to all blue every now and then. Maybe just to keep things fresh.

I went in to see the kit in the city store before, and I think the socks are pretty shocking

Its pretty good that some of you think I work for City. Nike, not so much. Still stand by my comments about the deal though

This is largely before we were big though. But yeah, not as many as most people think. You might see lots of people in Asia wearing shirts, but outside of Japan and Korea, how many of them are real?

Apparently our figures for 2011/12 were 250,000, but you can expect that to be more after we won the title.

But more importantly:

If the survey were to include all licensed merchandise sold by football clubs, then Liverpool would be ahead of Real Madrid. Liverpool are adidas’s top-selling team in terms of sales of overall merchandise.

Who'd have thought Scousers would love a track suit.

This is quite interesting, because it tells you which player names are the most popular.

How much did Nike pay the rags? Maybe with them focusing on just 1 major club in a league, gives us an advantage?

Today the Rags have announced the "biggest deal" in World soccer. £75M per year for 10 years. That should compensate them for supposedly losing the £50M from the Champs. league. Although they stick in my craw I have to accept that they are the biggest Brand in World football and will continue to be.

I'm missing something here though...

if United sell 1.4 million shirts a year... and each shirt is 40 quid, that's 56 million a year.
Of that, about 50 million will be profit
The manufacturer, the retailer and the club will split that in some manner...

So how the hell is it worth 75 million a year?.... that's still effectively making it a 25 million a year sponsorship...
