Vet Fees

Ok mine in with a scratch from a fight. In and out in 10 mins, £95 down and told likely an op if doesn’t get better. M

The other cat better have come off worse.

Taking my boy tomorrow he’s really slowed down and can’t get up easily from sitting. Dreading the bill to come .

Sadly not. My fault. They’ve never been ill since I’ve had them. I planned to get them health checked and vaccinated as I recently got them all insured.

Yogi the neighbours cat brought he flu virus into the house. He comes in through the cat flap, eats, and sleeps sometimes in the house. He’s never been ill either.

Carlos’s caught the virus first, then Pip, then Maggie. Lionel hasn’t caught it yet. I took Lionel to the vets today and had her vaccinated.

Carlos, Pip, and Maggie are sleeping most of the time. Carlos is till coughing, only when he’s a wake, and not as much as he was doing. Pip is bringing up clear and thick mucus, but not coughing. She doesn’t too look good. I need to keep an eye out on both of them. Maggie is coughing, but seems to be coping quite well. Carlos and Pip aren’t eating much, if anything at all. Maggie is eating, but not often. I don’t know if any of them are drinking water.

The vet said it can take up to 2 weeks for the flu virus to clear. He told me to monitor the cats. If the cats haven’t eaten in 4 days or have stopped drinking, I have to bring them to the vets. Maggie is eating. Carlos and Pip aren’t.

I got some Synulox tablets instead of the liquid from the vets. However, if the cats aren’t eating, it’s going to be difficult to get them to eat the tablets. I’ll have to ask my neighbour to help me to give the cats the liquid or the tablets.

On Animed online, one Synulox tablet costs 34p. They are prescription only. The tablets take 2 days to be delivered. The vet gave me 42 Synulox tablets. That would have cost £14.28 on Animed online. The vet charged me £56.24. To vaccinate Lionel, that cost £73.00.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a vets worth, but…., I need to be careful here, they are…. I best not say it.
Blimey it sounds like a nightmare at your house ! Hope they all do well, vets fees are a fucking scandal and dont even get me started on pet insurance !

Update.

Pip. She seems to be improving. She’s gone out, drank some water, and eaten tuna with a tablet broken up and mixed in with it. Her flu symptoms seem to be lessening, but she’s still wheezing and sneezing. She’s sat to the right of me on the floor, next to the sofa.

Maggie. She’s been sleeping all day on the cat bed and hasn't moved much. I woke her up this evening and gave her some Tuna with a tablet broken up and mixed in with it, which she finished off. She seems OK, but the fact she hasn’t bothered to get up out of the cat bed all day is a bit worrying. She has just come down stairs, sneezing. She’s eaten some Tuna and gone back to the cat bed.

Carlos. He’s still a concern, even though he has been out, eaten some cat biscuits, and drunk some water today, he’s still pretty ill. His eyes are watering, his nose is running, and he is sneezing.

My neighbour has just been around and helped me syringe liquid medication into his mouth. What a fucking nightmare. He hates being picked up, never mind being held. He went mental! Out of 1.4mls of medication, we think he swallowed between 0.5-1.0mls of medication? He weed on the table. He’s shot off somewhere. I don’t know where. It definitely stressed him out, which isn’t good for him atm, never mind for me. He’s just come in! :-) I have to admit, he’s my favourite out of my Cats. I love him to bits. He’s like a mate to me.

After Carlos, Pip, Maggie, and Lionel, I wasn’t going to have anymore cats and pets. I’m definitely not now. They will be my final cats and pets. Even though I love them all dearly, the cost of pet food, vets, and pet insurance is too much. :-(

Fingers crossed and all the good luck coming your way for your Cats and yourself mate.

They can be expensive , merlin just had two teeth out , general anaesthistic , dental xrays , pain meds for a week, took him a bit longer to recover so needed another week of pain meds, we had two post op check ups included

Cost me £800 , insurance wouldnt cover it , none of them cover non traumatic teeth out , just got to the end of my savings so just about fitted it in before i maxed out my credit card, with no way to pay for it , but that is another story

Merlin is just five so i want to keep him happy and healthy

I think he will be my last cat , if i get twenty years with him like my first one then i will be old , probably too old for another one , i am just not built to be catless though

Hope your fur babies are feeling well soon

All my cats are all over 10 years old. I’ll have them all for a few more years yet.

Maggie has been cleaning herself from head to tail for the last 15 minutes, which is a good sign, as poorly cats don’t clean themselves. Pip and Carlos are fast asleep.
