I'm always a bit sceptical about this succession planning thing. I've heard it a million times before that Bryan Robson or Steve Bruce or Gary Pallister were going to be next United manager, and it's only five minutes since Uwe Rosler was going to be our next manager. Obviously Vieira might be ours one day, but I'd say the chances are very slim. It's a bit like saying that Andy Cole's son will be England's centre forward one day.[/quote
I disagree, I think it is our plan. United never once put in place a system. Let alone a system like ours. They were ran with an iron fist. One almighty God that you worked for or against. Hence their problems now.
While I don't think Viera will certainly be our next manager, I would have him at second favourite already. Let alone in 18 months time. Hopefully longer if Manuel carries on as he is.
I think the plan is to hire from within, providing the man in place is right for the job. No I wouldn't want Rosler, nor would I want a Ya Ya, but Viera is different. He is a born leader. You can see it in him when he's doing the EDS, his players love him, he never shuts up. He has what it takes. 2-3 years time, we'll be strong enough to cope with the odd blip. Viera looks like a cracking coach. After all, we now have a system that suits a head coach, not an autocratic leader..
