Guess what ?

There has to be a reason they deliberately got him from Real Salt Lake, plus sending him over here for 6 months to spend time with Paddy & Manuel

To understand the ethos of the wider club and bring him up to speed with the playing style ideally expected ?

Maybe, but the US press at the time of his announcement were saying that this was a stepping stone into Europe's Big Leagues - he was literally stepping from a MLS Cup contender to nothing..... there has to be a reason for this I believe, apologies to Van Schippt at Melbourne but I don't think he's in the same league and can see him being replaced with someone else from within the "Mother Ship" at some point

Kreis however, makes me think so much I'm going to put a tenner on him being next City manager..........

I'm always a bit sceptical about this succession planning thing. I've heard it a million times before that Bryan Robson or Steve Bruce or Gary Pallister were going to be next United manager, and it's only five minutes since Uwe Rosler was going to be our next manager. Obviously Vieira might be ours one day, but I'd say the chances are very slim. It's a bit like saying that Andy Cole's son will be England's centre forward one day.[/quote

I disagree, I think it is our plan. United never once put in place a system. Let alone a system like ours. They were ran with an iron fist. One almighty God that you worked for or against. Hence their problems now.

While I don't think Viera will certainly be our next manager, I would have him at second favourite already. Let alone in 18 months time. Hopefully longer if Manuel carries on as he is.

I think the plan is to hire from within, providing the man in place is right for the job. No I wouldn't want Rosler, nor would I want a Ya Ya, but Viera is different. He is a born leader. You can see it in him when he's doing the EDS, his players love him, he never shuts up. He has what it takes. 2-3 years time, we'll be strong enough to cope with the odd blip. Viera looks like a cracking coach. After all, we now have a system that suits a head coach, not an autocratic leader..

I don't doubt that Vieira has the right personality to make a top manager. But as fans we don't really know just how innovative and tactically astute he is. For all we know he might just be very good at implementing Begiristain's blueprint for junior development. He might be doing that very well but without bringing too much of his own thinking. And whilst I'm sure that the hierarchy will not want a maverick manager, I expect they'll want someone with his own ideas. Whether or not that's Vieira I just dont know.

I think Vieira will be a fantastic manager for City..

His teams have done well in his short coaching career and he has won everything as a player..

Not quite, he's never won a Champions League trophy.

Won it with Inter in 2010
