I think it's a great city.
What are you looking to do? The Danube isn't in the city centre, so I didn't think it was much like either of the other cities.
As others have said, Schonbrunn palace is easy to reach. Plenty of museums around the Hofburg.
There are (or were) catacomb tours under the cathedral - if rooms of bones are a holiday activity.
The Prater park has a Ferris wheel as seen in the Third Man, although it was a fair journey and a bit shabby out to the park.
The main opera house is impressive, and may still do cheap standing tickets you queue up for.
Demels cafe is a great cake cafe, as is Hotel Sacher for, well, Sachertorte. May be a bit costly nowadays!
The Wienerwald and Tiergarten are probably not too difficult to get to for a bit of countryside.
Bratislava is about an hour on the train if you want to drop into Slovakia.
