I think so but it's a difficult situation to balance.
It's a problem of our own making though imo. If a club is going to fight strongly on four fronts, they have to have kids involved to take the weight off the squad imo & we are struggling for players because we have skipped that part of the plan & don't know who can reliably step up. It could be we fluke a few squad members by throwing some in today & them doing well, which could lift the whole season to another level, but that would be quite good fortune were it to happen.
Villa might play into our hands with a weakened side in the delusion they are fighting to stay up.
Our academy is a work in progress. Next year there will be several kids ready to step up. This year it's just too soon to expect anyone to fill the boots of the top players we now have. We are one of the top clubs in Europe & our expectations - fans especially, are too great for the current youngsters. One wrong move that costs us a cup & fans would criticise the club for complacency. I can hear them now - should have BOUGHT a player in the transfer window. The fact we haven't should send a message to the youngsters that we have plans for them WHEN they are ready. If we were a lesser club or Championship club then sure - they would probably get more games. But we're not. They & we have to be patient. When they're ready, they'll play.
