Villa Vs City Post Match Thread

I remember a very new Chelsea player, might even have been Drogba in a similar situation. He didn't know the protocol and innocently took a normal throw. The ref then gave an indirect free kick for ungentlemanly conduct and everyone was happy.
Gestede of course has been in England long enough to know the protocol. As you say the ref could have sorted this out although he shouldn't have had to.

It's a funny old game here in England. You often read how foreign players are quite bemused by the 'sporting' side of things. Footballers coming straight from a South American football culture where what we consider blatant cheating is considered a normal and in some cases, admirable part of the game in particular.

Absolutely. I hope he got bollocked by his team mates for it.

I've just watched the Gestede thing again and for me just before he throws the ball he makes a little gesture towards the goal. Now I may be being naive here (and I'm sure plenty on here will yell me I am) but I think he was saying he'd throw it out and we'd restart with a goal kick. He then throws it as hard as he can and it's Hart that steps across to try to intercept it. I don't think he did anything wrong.
Why didn't he just throw it in the air above Joe then? He knew what he was doing. It was bad sportsmanship. I hope he goes down in the return at our place, and we continue and score.

It was blatantly out of order. I was absolutely disgusted by that! We, sportingly kicked the ball out in a key moment where we had the momentum. Their player rolled around on the floor for 3 minutes then shot up, walked off and sprinted back on the pitch.

The person who annoyed me most in the situation was Micah Richards. As their club captain he should have had a word with Gestede and ordered them to kick the ball straight out for a goal kick of the corner.

They cheated their way through that game and I'm not happy I spent £43 to watch a team time waste for a significant portion of the game! I used to like Villa, but in recent seasons their bitter, small minded mentality has really come out, I hope they go down.

The ref was weak as fuck to be honest what Gestede did could definitely been ruled ungentlemanly conduct under the laws of the game and awarded us a free kick,i genuinely think a lot of current refs are oblivious to much of the laws of association football.

SSN have got Dermott Gallagher on who's basically just fudged the answer. Apparently there's nothing the referee could do because Joe Hart 'chose' to kick the ball out of play, however the referee had already stopped play to allow N'zogbia to receive treatment, so if Hart hadn't kicked it out what would have been the outcome. Mind you, he's now trying to defend Taylor's decision not to award Chelsea a penalty whilst at the same time saying "anywhere else on the pitch and it's a free-kick".

2 things why did joe hart stop the ball should have just let it go out and the ref should have control of the play because he stop the play with city kicking the ball out and should have given a goal kick. the rule needs to be change so if a team kicks the ball out for a injury to the other team player the throw in should be given back to the team in play and not a player throw in

The fact that he sprinted hard after the ball to close Hart down shows his intent. If he had been putting the ball out for a goal kick he would have been trotting back the other way. The ref should have booked him for unsporting conduct really.

Speaking of the ref, apart from not managing that situation at all, giving Sterling offside from a throw in (you can't be offside from a throw in), missing the penalty on Sterling in the first half, giving Villa a free kick in a dangerous position when Ashley Young seemed to have rejoined the club, adding only four minutes of additional time when the Gestede incident stopped play for three minutes alone, not penalising Villa for their blatant time wasting throughout the second half, and getting dozens of smaller decisions wrong, I thought he had a decent game overall.

the linesman gave the throw in to villa not city which is why play was restarted with a throw in, not a free kick
