Villarreal (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I am becoming increasingly concerned about Gvardiol. His wayward passing is gifting counter attacks on a regular basis. We could have conceded 2 tonight as a result of his very poor distribution attempts.
Not sure I would trust him against the very best for this reason.
He's solid as a central defender and good in the opposition box but I just don't trust him in possession.
He has been really off the pace this season just when he needs to be stepping up as our other centre backs get older and we still do not have a specialist leg back. It's a shame because I honestly thought he had the most potential to develop of all our defenders.

Yeah ,he seems to have plenty of potential to be one of the best ,but until he gets rid of those mistakes he makes in every single game ,he won´t be in the very top of centre backs.

Very good down our right last night, mainly due to the resurgence of a certain Nunez. Savinho had his best game in quite a while but there's still so much there with him. If he could only shoot either side of the keeper. The left side was well off last night, I like to see Gvardiol play centrally. Doku wasn't at the races and hasn't for the his last few games(after showing top form before) Lots been said about our drop off in the second half, but we're still getting up to top fitness, played on Saturday and Gonzo going off when he did didn't help. There were many positives. The way we started was probably the best of any game this season and our press was fantastic! Couldn't keep that going but we had the chances to put the game to bed(again) so a drop off was always going to be on the cards. Haaland keeping his run going(although he should of had a hatrick) and we got minutes into players coming back from injury. It wasn't pretty at times, far from perfect, but we got what we went for and it was another game chalked off to regain our fitness. That'll do!
Savinho reminds me of Sterling with his shooting technique. He can't keep his head still and he slashes wildly at the ball. He needs to slow down in the moment. City coaches worked relentlessy to improve Sterling and it worked for one season but the next year he reverted to type. It's all in the head, like a golfer with the yips.

Was overplayed last season due to many injuries. Needs time to regain form. Not concerned at all. Will be a beast in a few weeks.

Wasn't that Eric Bristow? Haha. Yes, I can see a similar pattern to Sterling but Raheem was absolutely goal crazy compared to this kid. We can all see he's got it, it just how much does he want it.

That was a quality win against the team that is third in La Liga table currently. A bit of a snoozer of a match, but I'm okay with that.

Stones used to make a lot of mistakes but cut it out and ended up being world class. I hope our coaches can do the same with Gvardiol.

Wasnt talking about our fans

in general the stadium and their fans in particular were pretty quiet
Got you - but think you need a new Laptop...and yes, other than a bit of clapping - the home fans were shite (but very friendly)

Perhaps the Blue Moaners will stop saying ‘Haaland not suitable for our style’ now he’s heading for even more greatness and still years from his peak. Goalscorers tend to peak later on in their careers as the know-how builds up. And Nunes - some fans were quick to jump on his back when in truth becoming part of the Pep way of playing takes a hell of a long time to grasp fully.

For sure, there is a lot of improvement left in this side - some mega talent has been held back through injury.

As a seasoncard holder, I’m five weeks into seven weeks in California seeing family and new grandchild, so I’m watching our games on tv etc……… My take on things is that we’re now a dogged side that’s difficult to play against - the defence is gritty and behind that is the greatest GK on the planet (and yes I’ve been saying that for six years or so). We’re getting back to a ‘no-one wants to play us’ scenario and our guys’ confidence is growing game by game. Special mentions for Gonzalez and Savinho.

Fucking woman and her shit talk on TNT - they would never talk that way about dippers or rags - they hate it when we win
Who was it - what did she say? I’m guessing Lucy Ward? I’m out of the country so haven’t watched on TNT.

A bit harsh that - albeit your opinion. Not every player can be superb non-stop. A long way to go.

I like Reshmin, her delivery is kind of an odd mix of say Garth Crooks and Emily Maitlis. She’s wasted on idle football chit chat with dull as ditchwater pundits. And to be fair to her, the editorial position doesn’t come from her, she’s just the highly polished deliverer of the message.

The real question here is how the fuck does Owen Hargreaves get any work at all
Cos he played for the rags

Perhaps he should retire?
