Villarreal Fans

Yeah, from living in Spain and watching Atleti, I saw that on the whole, away support isnt really done on the scale it is over here.

Away goals were often greeted by that weird, erie silence we experienced tonight

reminded me of watching city/millwall at maine road

think we missed a penalty and because they were banned no-one celebrated it, was very strange O_o

Spainish teams don't really have travelling support, that's one of the main differences between our League and theirs. Obviously Barca and Real are totally different, they have large away support but the lesser lights fans don't travel. When you compare West Ham, last season bottom of the Prem all year but still big travelling support. It's strange to us.

I was moved from East Level 2 to CB Level 2 block 228, next to the directors box. There was about 20 to 30 Villareal fans in there, including one lad who was escorted out after they scored for being a bit too vocal!!

I've explained about their fans before. Villareal is a town with a population of around 50,000 and yet still get 22000 at home every game. Their fans should in no way be criticised imo baring in mind Spanish fans just do not travel even to away games in their own city.

My gripe about where they were put was that it took out two toilets (Level 2 & Level 3) on the end curly-wurly. Thought my bladder was going to explode at half-time. The first toilet in the south stand was rammed as people from East level 2 made there way round to it and there was only the North curly-wurly toilet on level 3 open as the south end toilet had been cordoned off for sole use by the Villarreal fans, who probably didn't use it anyway.

They had about 100 next to directors box,level2,colin bell. I hope we charged em £105 for the UEFA class 1 seat, That is the price city offered me for the return leg, I pleasantly requested a normal seat.

If we progress will be intresting to see the stewarding of away fans in this area, one Villareal fan was escorted out after they scored last night but were genarally family type tourists taking pictures.

Here is a feature I did for the Spanish football website Elcentrocampista.com looking into the lack of away support in Spanish football.
