Vincent Kompany injuries

They were managing a more mechanical injury, to the knee joint. They could still train, if only in a swimming pool and enough injections to get through a game.

Muscles are different. They can just go at any time and never regain full solidity once damaged.

I damaged my calf and weeks later it popped again just stepping out the front door. Another time just walking. Vinnie has done so many muscles that one is bound to go again. Especially in the rigours of a game. I think that’s what we are seeing with these early game issues.

Basically he can be at full fitness and one of his repeatedly damaged calf muscles can go at any time.

I think you are hitting the nail on the head, I feel sorry for VK, his determination to be still playing his admirable, it must be soul destroying for him to keep pulling muscles at random after working hard to get back up to match fitness, his gym workouts always look intense, so it does seem that it is the little extra stretch or strain that you put in for the tackle is the cause of his problems, 31 is no age to retire in the modern game :(

One issue he has is simply his frame, he is built to hold a lot of upper body muscle and keeping it of whilst keeping fit must be hard. You can tell his shoulders, arms and chest just want to explode and a couple of seasons ago they did a bit, his shoulders would give an ox a run for it's money. Vinny with a lot of muscle is an 18st player if he is an ounce. That is a lot of mass to move around in a nimble fashion without putting a lot of strain of certain tendons and muscle groups very often.

It is a terrible shame that i just don't see how he will ever stay reasonably fit now where we can rely on him to any extent. The spirit is willing and ready, sadly his body doesn't seem able to keep up.

I would give him a rolling 1 year deal that way he can stay as long as he wants or retire whenever he wants he is a club legend and if fit walks into 95% of teams he can pass so much onto younger players he is worth keeping around even if it is as 4th choice. Yes he can't be depended on to play two games a week but he is still a solid squad player. He is a club legend and I hope retires here.

Nice to read some positive and understanding comments in this thread. Some of the childish and disrespectful comments about a guy who loves our club and has always given it everything are frankly disgusting
