Vincent Kompany injuries

We certainly strengthened weaknesses, I never once said that full-backs and keeper weren't weaknesses but I still think Otamendi is a huge weakness unless he has Kompany next to him. I would love to be proven wrong and him be wonderful all season but I think over the season, if Kompany is back to having significant injury problems this is something that will probably come back to bite us, especially against top teams in the Prem and CL. I don't think it is a replacement for Kolarov we need, we need a replacement for Kompany and Otamendi needs to drop down one in the pecking order. We need a Van Dyke not a JFE. Although if it turns out that Kompany is fucked, we might need both in the non too distant. Just my opinion as always, I suspect you won't agree.
Your argument is a bit of a silly one... Its one of those arguments that attempt to be right by making the bar of being wrong so unreachable. Even at his very best Kompany wasn't wonderful all season, our current best player Kevin won't be wonderful all season, nor would Dave or Aguero or Jesus....

Yet your standard for determining you ate wrong is "if Otamendi can be wonderful all season." I mean really?

It is demonstrably false that Otamendi needs Kompany next to him. He's been good too many times without Kompany for anyone to believe that.

Otamendi is easy to describe... He is good most of the time, but every now and then he has an awful game. And it has nothing to do with who partners him.

So far so good. We are without Kompany and the team has been playing very well. On the issue of our defense... So far you've been wrong. We are conceding fewer chances now than we did at the end of last season, and considerably fewer goals.

So lets keep watching...

Well given his status it's clear he was put above the priorities of the club. We should of bought his replacement years ago yet still don't have one as he has constantly given us false hope. Getting a run of games, showing his quality then getting injured.

Pep himself stated we need cover for him, I was sure we were going to buy a CB in the summer. I don't know what's more shocking not buying a CB or targeting JFE.

Another poster said it well. Sentiment has prevented us from progressing.
Yeah, the sentiment argument is bollocks as well. It's not Kompanys fault we didn't buy anybody else. I'm pretty sure he hasn't turned round and told the last couple of managers not to buy another CB. I'm also pretty sure that he doesn't intend on getting injured and him giving us false hope is just a professional footballer trying desperately to play the game he's worked so hard to get to the top of.

Yep, let's keep watching until we come up against a team with real quality. If we keep clean sheets and defend well then you can shout from the rooftops how you were right all along.

Who is blaming Kompany?

The club is at fault and who ever decided not to buy a CB.

Ok you're being pedantic and picking on an individual word I used. To be clear I don't think otamendi has been wonderful at all this season. He's been ok most of the time and has been worryingly bad once or twice. He has the odd wonderful performance in him on occasion but I don't think he's good enough to be first choice CB which is essentially what he is, if Kompany is out for a lengthy period. Apart from anything he's just way too slow to play in our high line and that's before you factor in some of his decision making. If we have him starting most matches this season, I think we will struggle to win the league and won't have a chance of winning the CL. I apologise for using the word wonderful, it was a mistake, I don't think he's in any way a wonderful player.

Problem is, its a World Cup year and he's the Belgium captain who are one of the favourites. Martinez will always pick him, and he will not be able to say 'But its only Malta, can I sit this one out', or whoever it was. Anyway, he's told Pep, he'll listen to his body (bollocks). Pep now thinking, fuck you Vinny, if you're not playing for us, you won't be playing for them. This will end messy, Kompany will be the loser

Can we get name a of teams with real quality before hand or do we determine this after we don't get the clean sheet?

Coz I'd have thought Liverpool and Shaktar had real quality. But yeah, lets keep watching.

Anyway, I so agree we need a Kolarov replacement. And I still reckon Vlad Chiriches is one of the best backup CBs I've seen.

Give over we have hardly been tested yet. And, otamendi was woeful against Liverpool when they had 11 men on the pitch.
