As for Madrid's 3rd goal this wasn't Kompany's fault. He doesn't duck under the ball he avoids glancing it. The shot was struck powerfully by Ronaldo but was going to his, Kompany's, right. He doesn't have the time to get in front of it (try watching it a normal speed!). It's an awful dilema for a defender, do you try and intervene but risk deflecting it into your net? Kompany in a split second instinctively decides against touching it, and I believe it was the right thing to do; he was just unlucky the Hart was beaten by the dip of the ball.

don't really like singling out any one player for criticism , but the Vincent Kompany of last season would have blocked that Ronaldo effort , and he should have 'stood tall' last night in the face of Ronaldos hopeful punt ...... you could clearly see from Joe Harts actions after the ball was in the net that he thought kompany SHOULD have dealt with it ..... the 'ducking motion' of Kompany clearly , and definitely , threw Joe Hart into confusion there.

As I said he doesn't duck underneath the ball so what does standing tall have to do with it? Do you honestly think Kompany ducks out of the way because he doesn't want to get hurt!?

Why would the Kompany of last year done it any differently?

It was a collective effort ......

you could probably point the finger at Garcia for the first , he failed to close down Marcello quickly enough ....

you could probably have a go at Joe Hart for the second .... in the time it took for Benzema to turn and shoot , Hart might have got across goal to cover the shot a bit better

but Kompanys actions definetely played a big part in the third goal , he should have moved heaven and earth to block that Ronaldo effort at that stage of the game ... even if he had no intention of blocking it , Joe Hart thought he was going to !

They were three decent enough goals , and of course everything is 'ifs and buts , but there are probably things we could have done better to try to prevent them.

Doesn't matter now though , we move on to the next game ......

I thought Vinny was in two worlds and was worried about putting it into his own net. That tranny puts a lot of pace, bend and dip on the ball when he shoots and what might look like a simple header is probably not in

Full pre-season with all the squad = Epic start to the season.

This season:

Euro's and Olympics mean next to no pre-season for almost all our key players/slow movement in transfer window = Slow start to the season.

Sure he looks a bit slow off the mark, but they all do. They've not had enough time to work together. It's so clear we're not firing on all cylinders yet, I expect them all to up their came very shortly in unison.

I think its probabily because his pre season was disturbed with the calf injury..

He will be fine in a few games.
