Vinny joins Anderlecht as player/manager (Simon Davies follows him)

Really thought we would have seen one more season from him

Absolutely gutted about this news. Thank you Vinnie for all the memories and being the best captain and person I have known at the club.

Words can’t describe my feelings for this great player, brilliant leader and a fantastic human being. Love you Vinny, hope to see you back here soon.

Thank you Vinny.
And what a way to bow out - in a blaze of glory. It feels very sad now but he deserves to go out this way than drifting out of our consciousness whilst suffering a spate of injuries.
I’m sure he will be back at some point in the future but in the meantime, thank you so much for being a great player, a fantastic captain and role model, and a wonderful man.

Oh no he's leaving:...
"An Open Letter to the fans.
PART 1 of 2

Dear all,

Community Shield Winners!
Back 2 back League Cup Winners!
Back 2 back Champions of England!
FA Cup Winners!

We’ve just seen the close of an incredible season.
My 11th as a Blue.
And I cannot believe I’m writing this but ... also my last as a Blue.
Countless of times have I imagined this day, after all, the end has felt nearby for so many years.
It still doesn’t feel real.
Man City has given me everything.
I’ve tried to give back as much as I possibly could.
How often does someone get the chance to end such an important chapter, representing a club with such great history and tradition, in such a great fashion?

The time has come for me to go now.

As overwhelming as it is, I feel nothing but gratefulness.
I am grateful to all those who supported me on a special journey, at a very special club.
I remember the first day, as clear as I see the last.
I remember the boundless kindness I received from the people of Manchester.

I will never forget how all Man City supporters remained loyal to me in good times and especially bad times. Against the odds you have always backed me and inspired me to never give up.

Sheikh Mansour changed my life and that of all the City fans around the world, for that I am forever grateful. A blue nation has arisen and challenged the established order of things, I find that awesome.
I cherish the counsel and leadership of a good human being, Khaldoon Al Mubarak. Man City could not be in better hands.

It’s cliché to say it but it’s also so true: without my teammates I would have never been here today. We fought many battles together. Side by side. In good times and in bad. So to all of you, from the 2008-2009 squad to today’s domestic Treble winners: I owe you guys!

A special word also to Pep and the backroom staff: you’ve been superb. You’ve followed me through so much hardship. You made me come back stronger every time. Thank you so much.

I also want to use this platform to express the love that I have for my nearest and dearest.
It knows no boundaries. Carla, Sienna, Sire and Kai, the one and only quadruple that matters.
My dad (Pierre), Christel and François, my true Invincibles.
I live with only one regret. I would have loved to take my mother, Jocelyne, to the Etihad, seeing her chant the City songs sat next to my children and wife. I would have wanted her to see me happy, playing the game that I love at a club that I love. Deep down, I know she’s been with us through all this time.

Part 2 of this open letter, about my future, will follow shortly …"

The difference in respect between RAWK and RedCafe is staggering.

RedCafe putting rivalry aside and recognising Kompany as a 'great footballer and leader', 'club legend' etc. and RAWK, well I'm not going to spoil this thread with the utter disrespectful crap from there.

Thank you Vinny, you have been an inspirational leader, a quality human being , a man of immense quality and character .

We will hopefully see you in some capacity in the future and I hope and know you will carry it out with the quality and class that has become your trademark

We love you more than you will know

If anybody deserves a statue it’s Vinny.

For me he is City’s greatest ever player & that goal v Leicester will live forever

Today is a new chapter is our club’s history & with such quick notice I expect a new player to be announced next week.

The parade on Monday is now for our captain.

Who is going to lift our future trophies? I can picture everyone of our 10 trophies (plus charity shields) being raised in the air by the big man. After waiting my whole life to see a city captain do that he doesn’t seem right someone else doing it. As the song goes we all love him more than he can know. This is a sad day but as a previous poster said all good things come to an end.

Another thought has come to my mind. I bet Pep told them in the dressing room yesterday to go out there and do it for Vinny and that was the main reason for that awesome performance in the final, a performance I don’t think I have even seen by anyone in a final before. A similar use of team spirit he utilised in the documentary when Silva’s baby was having problems.

We have been blessed to have him lead our blue family, he spent his time celebrating with the fans yesterday and our contribution to the club has never been lost on him. He is one day destined for greater things beyond football. Our legend in sky blue.

What a surprise to wake up to.
Felt he could do the job for another season or 2 and share the workload but thats how ut ends, a bit surprisingly for sure.

However, as a player he couldn't have chosen for a better time to leave city, just won the unprecedented and boom he is of.

Lastly thanks Vinny for all the memories and for the leadership you displayed on and of the pitch. Well Done !!!

What a sad day, I'm crying.

Thank you for everything Vinnie - What a role model, ambassador for the club, player, leader and human you have been. You do the right thing to finish on a high and I dearly hope that you will come back and be involved with the club in one way or another, we need you. Just like 2012, there wouldn't have been a PL title this year without you, it's been a pleasure to watch you these last important games of the season. Thank you Vinnie!

Tevez did the first post 2008.

Nice odds ;-)
Seriously, though what a player.
I was at the Leicester match with my City supporting missus & when he hit that ball I was screaming my head off with everybody else.
Fantastic player.
Fantastic bloke.
A true legend of your club.
I keep saying to my missus, "what a time to be a blue"
Good luck Vinnie in whatever you do.
