I know people are sick of me saying this but Otamendi and Mangala and Kompany are better than Stones. So Why not sign VVD and let Stones go (with a buy back - just as we are doing with Iheanacho).

I think it's better we keep Stones, as another club would only offer us 10 mill or something stupid

We can't let Stones go when we've only just invested in him
FFS, he's only been with us one season and
1/ He's young with his whole career ahead of him
2/ We know that sometimes it takes time for a player to settle

Stones has shown that he is fine in this team when he doesnt have to do any defending. I think we are shaping up in a way that means we dont intend to be defending against many sides. I do worry about him against the better sides though.

I totally agree on Stones. He has been making these mistakes ever since he came on the scene, and they are showing no signs of diminishing or even becoming less frequent. He is built like a string of pish, which quite frankly is a disgrace for a centre back at this level. Couldn't believe when were in for him, thought it was a bad joke a la Wilshere. Turned out it wasn't a joke and we actually were that foolish. I would love to know who scouts these players and gives the go ahead for inept players such as Stones, Managala etc. Would the manager have given the go ahead for these?

Apparently Liverpool will not put a bid in for VVD unless they are invited to by Southampton, and soton are very unlikely to do so. Chelsea have stated that they will be giving Christiansen a chance this season, so I think they're set at CB even in a back five.

This all being the case, we might be the only horse left in the race and so could get a less silly price, especially since he is refusing to play for Soton full stop at the moment.

Now we probably aren't interested after the blackpool debacle, but its developing in an interesting way.

Sidenote: If we have taken Walker from Spurs, Alexis from Arsenal, beaten Chelsea to Danilo and nabbed VVD from Liverpool then what a statement of intent that is! Aside from the obvious quality of those signings I think that would make us pretty undisputably the most attractive club in the PL in the eyes of incoming players.

I thought stones was good for like the 1st 17 games or so before he got injured + the fact vinny come back if he was at the back with vinny he would of been even better. Plus he was adapting to peps style i am not sure why a lot of people are jumping on his back?

I think he's got a big season ahead of him, however, to be constantly calling for his head this summer is outrageous. He's got a lot to improve on, however, he's also got a lot of strong potential to build the improvements on.

If we can partner him with a Kompany or VVD with Mendy and Walker either side, I think we'll absolutely be putting Stones in a defence where he can flourish.

I also feel that the addition of Ederson will help a lot.

Let's see how his season goes before we get the pitchforks out, eh?
