If you don't back it, why are you trolling me ?

I'm not remotely angry btw, just asking a perfectly resonable question, the same one.

I'll recap in case you missed the point.

A poster on here, has basically said, that the reason many of us are concerned about this JFE transfer, is because we are basically stupid by comparison to those who 'watch football for a living'.

My point is, that if these people who 'watch football for a living' are so superior, how did they miss the qualities Evans possesses, whe they were able to watch him every week, for ten years playing for Manchester Utd & he ended up going for peanuts ?

If their judgement was questionable then, should we blindly accept it now ?
No, the proof will be in the pudding if we sign him.

I've not watched him closely enough at West Brom to know if he's still or ever was a top player but I've been surprised by every podcast, ex player and pundit lavishing Evans with praise.

As I said before, if we sign him and he does well then it will have been a mistake to not buy him two years ago. I'd personally prefer Mangala given another shot.

This is my point entirely.

It appears that JFE is being judged as being 'a new man' due to his performances for West Brom, because if he was that good for the majority of his career, people, including Pep, would have been all over him, when he left Utd. He was a well known player, not someone slipping under the radar.

I think he's done ok for West Brom, but they don't play like City, or even Utd, so I don't see how we can be sure we are not signing the same player we didn't fancy, at all, two years ago.

Hopefully, he is actually better now. But it must surely be a gamble & not a cheap one.

VVD may actually be better economics.

I don't have much bone in this and actually believe VVD to be the better investment for 60m when compared to the 30m for Evans. But from where I stand, evans was clearly a good player at United as he was a major feature for both a title winning team and a team that also just missed out on a league on the last day, In his last season at United, he was plagued by a lot of injuries as well as a long-term suspension and missed the last league games through injury. Therefore I'm willing to bet that the big teams were hesitant to sign a then 27 yo injury prone defender whatever the price was. Obviously since joining west brom, he's been pretty much free from injuries and has been part of a very good defensive unit for the past 2 season and I believe him to be a key reason why that's the case. Now It could also just be that the big teams just didn't think much of him at the time but I just wanted to throw another possibility of why maybe they decided against it.

I could imagine that being the case if he had a history of breaking down but it's a bit of a stretch to imagine it had a big bearing after that season.

We paid decent money for Gundogan. JFE was going for peanuts.

It just seems strange to me that VVD is not on our radar & JFE is.

I will support either if they sign.

If we want to be the best, we need the best. Imo best CB available, has pace, power, v/good on the ball, presence, leader. We need him.

He doesn't want to join City though. He's been steadfast since May in saying he only wants to join Liverpool.

So if City came along with £60m , he's going to turn us down and stay at Southampton? No chance. Don't think Southampton want to do business with Liverpool, so I can't work out why nobody else hasn't gone in for him.

You're telling me i'm wrong then you don't understand why nobody's gone in for him. Haha.
