Virgil van Dijk

If we are really in for him than it means Pep has had it with Kompany and Van Dijk will be the third option. Come on. You didn't really think we were going to go into the stretch run of the CL and take a chance on Vinny's quad?

Think it's clear that Vinnie will become marginalised if we spend big on another centre half. Maybe he'll get some game time in the holding midfield role, injuries permitting. Either way, he's been absolutely magnificent for us, and the best defender in the world before his injuries. Some going for a £6m midfielder!

I still don't know about this. Even with rotation you usually stick to two CB's for the majority of the season unless they get injured. Neither Stones or Otamendi deserve to be dropped and I can't see him being happy sitting on the bench waiting for them to get injured. We've already got Gundy and Bernardo struggling to get game time do we really wanna spend £60 million on another one?
IMO you dont spend 50-60m on a third choice player. If we sign him he will be first choice.

If we sign him I believe that when we start next season him and Stones would be our first choice pairing. Thought against city recently he was excellent. But with the number of games we have pep can easily keep 3 top class CB’s happy.

Maguire was signed for £12m, possibly rising to £17m. £40 million tops is a fair price. £20m profit in less than a year. Still £30m cheaper than VVD and with greater potential to develop under Pep.

I get the feeling the VVD situation is just so City can stop Liverpool or Chelsea strengthening rather than us improving. That's not a good way to operate IMO
.
so much wrong with everything in bold.

If Pep can turn Otomendi into City's Ramos, Stones into a rock at CB, and coax performances out if Mangala, imagine what he could do with VVD?
With Vinny fluctuating between the injury table and constantly looking like he needs game time, Mangala on his way out, there is a real need for another top CB.
I'm sure Vinny is well aware that barring a miracle, his playing days are coming to an end, after almost a decade at City it's only right that he is kept on at the club, not only in a coaching role, but as a shining example to our youth teams of how to conduct yourself on and off the pitch

Yes.

Game 1 play Otamendi & Stones. Game 2 Stones & VVD. Game 3 play VVD & Otamendi. Repeat. Everyone gets the same number of games. Each gets to play two out of every three games. Inevitability there will be a sequence of more games given injuries and suspensions. Everyone can be kept happy.

With Stones and Otamendi having big roles to play for their countries this summer having VVD ready to go at the start of preseason will be a huge boost.

VVD also strikes me as a leader. Can't have enough of them.

A former manager of mine, who is a Liverpool fan, bumped into me a work just before Christmas. After commenting on what a great season he thought we were having he joked, 'If you get Virgil Van Dyke its over between us!' Don't under estimate what affect this signing will have on other clubs and their fans.

You could say all of the above about Sanchez as well.
