200k a week? Nah that cant be right. The mans played a season and a half of top league football. He's on 50k a week currently? Offer him 90k+bonuses and the chance to win trophies or stay at Southampton and finish midtable for the forseeable future on his 50k a week 6 year contract.
That is not his other option though...

Certainly Southampton can feel obliged to cash in on VVD. He's their best player and their captain, they don't want to sell and he's got 5 years left on his contract. That said, anything north of £55m is obscene even in today's market.

Yaya was the second-highest earner but that was before the newly renegotiated contract which has apparently cut down his salary by half. Aguero is the highest now (220K, not including bonuses and other stuff). Got to laugh at ourselves sometimes. We have been chasing this lad now it seems for ages and not many are saying they wouldn't want him. As soon as it looks like we may have got him, what do folk do? Whinge about price & wages etc (which IMO are probably bollocks made up by the press)

Not because it's too high, but because we can literally buy any defender in the world for 60mil and in that case, why settle for VVD? Also, those wages are insane. He would be the second highest earner at City. No way players like Silva, KdB, Kompany, Sterling are going to sit around and say "well, fine by me. I'm happy with my 100K". Didn't the whole structure change with the big influence now being bonuses for performance!I googled highest paid Manchester City players and got Aguero on £160k pw with Silva and Kompany on £150k pw. But there's all kinds of nonsense out there.
