As some have said, once Stones is fit again would he get in front of him or Otamendi? If I was him I'd go for guaranteed first team football - and he'll get that at Liverpool and the Rags.

At Liverpool, he'd certainly get in. FFS; I'd get in ahead of Lovren and Klavan. Not so sure about the vermin though. After all (you're my Alan Ball), they got the Face and Smallthing; the best CB pairing in the wiorld.

I've been pretty skeptical that this'll get done but Sammy Lee made a good point on twitter the other day that it would be really odd for the club to be briefing journalists that we're interested in Van Dijk if we weren't confident the feeling was mutual and that we could get something done with Southampton. Especially after he was so public about his desire to go to 'Pool earlier this summer. Fingers crossed.

If he has any sense, he'd join a club where he plays 50% games and gains the trophies that a professional should attain to. His other options are to stay at, or join, a club that pays him something like City might, but also at the risk of being part of a team that gets booed off the field regularly.

Plus at least here, he won't get dragged out every second day to do a scripted interview on how big a Liverpool fan he was as a boy, how special and unique a club it is and how great it is to play at Klanfield.

Could it be that Southampton came to us and let us know that they’re not willing to deal with Liverpool? Even if Van Dijk wasn’t exactly having us as his top choice, going to an unbeaten side contending for CL it’s not too bad.

This thread is a carbon copy of the Kyle Walker one in the summer never worth the amount of money but for it you get a tall physical quick technically great player who can ping the Boateng type 60yard pass to the other wing. And in my opinion the closest thing physically to Kompany in his prime that you can find on the market. VVD in Jan and Skriniar in the summer and you CB position is covered for the next 5yrs.

They’d be 4th option anyway, Vinny and Tosin as 4th option would be perfect. There’s no way a player like Skriniar comes to play the odd game or two
