vs Sunderland Starting 11?

I think it's just about impossible to guess until we see what he lines up with against Arsenal. That will probably be close to the team he starts. I am very curious who will make up the attackers outside of Aguero -- I think he is probably the only one who can be certain he'll play every game where he's healthy (maybe KDB as well). Pep is going to rotate the others quite a bit.

Hart
Sagna
Otamendi
Stones (Denayer)
Angelino

Fernandinho
De Bruyne
Silva
Nolito
Sane

Aguero

Given that Sunderland are unlikely to attack much I say give Angelino his league debut.if no Stones play Denayer, working on basis Kompany unfit.

Upcoming friendlies v St. Johnstone & Arsenal will help to give better indication.

Really looking forward to the new season.

If no one gets injured, then I'd say only Clichy, Otamendi, Fernandinho and Aguero seem as certain starters (probably Hart as well, but fuck knows?) so far. Which makes it all the more exciting for me. :)

He was training and playing regularly until just over 3 weeks ago. If he was out for 3 weeks with an injury in mid season, would it be unusual for him to play a fortnight after returning to training?

Fair point.

Just think that there is as much chance as KDB starting, yet many leave him out of their team for Sunderland.

Starting XI
Hart
Zabaleta Fernandinho Stones Angelino
Fernando Silva
Sané De Bruyne Nolito
Aguero

Subs
Caballero
Otamendi
Sagna
Clichy
Toure/Nasri
Sterling/Navas

Iheanacho

I'm absolutely certain Stones will not be in the starting 11 against Sunderland. I'll bet money on it.

looks a little weird but seems pep-esque enough to me. think de bruyne wide would be a good bet this season if pep can coach the tactics into him. he's just got such amazing delivery. another option would be slide him central, yaya to the bench, zaba at rwb. then it's basically a 433 in defense and 343 in attack. clich ota sagna/mang zaba.. dinho holding in attack, to quarterback and prevent counters... idk it's really impossible to know what pep's plans will end up being. think he play with it for a while tbh. we have a lot of options

Regardless of specific personnel, I suspect he's most likely to start players who really understand how he wants them to play - I think that means that late arrivals to pre season are very unlikely to start against Sunderland.

Kolarov is going to start and this forum will cease to exist after imploding.

You've all missed an obvious starter
Delph

Not sure if serious, but I actually wouldn't be that surprised if Delph made the line up. He's played better than I expected in the 2 matches and he has a lot of energy to close down, press and win balls. Of course he doesn't have the ball control of Yaya, but he can cover a lot more ground. I also wouldn't be surprised if a Aleix Garcia made the lineup. He has really impressed me so far. He's like a young Xabi Alonso in the deep lying play maker role and can play out of pressure which would help the CB's along with whoever the keeper is. A midfield 3 with Garcia at the base with Delph and Dinho in front of him wouldn't be too bad.

I don't think he was serious

I think Kun will be rotated often to help him keep healthy

At the end of last season I had a small bet with a mate on how many of the players starting the first PL game of this season would be ones that were already at the club. He said 6 (he was in the "we need a clear out" camp), I said 9. It wouldn't surprise me if its 10, with Nolito being the newbie. We're currently arguing over whether Denayer counts as an existing player.

It'll be interesting to see if Yaya makes the starting 11. It sounds arrogant but it shouldn't matter too much who starts as we should have enough to beat Sunderland at home regardless.

I imagine the team will be something like

Hart

Zabaleta
Mangala
Otamendi
Clichy

Fernandinho
Delph

Silva
De Bruyne
Nolito

Aguero

The week after against Stoke will be a real test for us and Pep
