Was anyone Confident that Hughes Would achieve top 6 finish?

No.
The fact is we ship to many soft goals.
Sunderland's first yesterday was like watching a re-run of the same goal over and over again, week after week.
The often shambolic left side of the defence and the inability to stop crosses coming into the box has ultimately cost Hughes his job.

I think he may have achieved top 6, because of our squad size and fitness levels in the 2nd half of the season. However, I was becoming increasingly worried we would not, and I guess the owners where as well.

We showed no gradual improvement whatsoever. Each game was like the first game of the season, you didn't have a clue what to expect. Maybe he wasn't good enough for the job, maybe in time he would have been, but how long do you give him without that encouragement of seeing us improve........ 2 years, 4 years, 10 years?

Top 6 was a stronge possability but top 4 was no going to happen under hughes

The problem I think was Top 4 was the revised target by the Club once the transfers spending in the summer hit a certain level, even though top 6 was the intial target at the end of last season

Up till the bolton game I still believed top 6 but not top 4. After the Bolton and spuds results I was all but certain we would not finish in the top 6 probably 7th or 8th certainly no better. You have to look at the other teams up there.

With Hughes in charge I had no confidence we would finish above Chelsea, Arsenal, Scum, Villa, Spuds or Liverpool over the course of the season.

With our defence, away record and results against the worst sides I think you would have be either very brave or very naive to honestly say we would have finished in the top 6 with him in charge.

I have no doubt that we would have finished at least 4th and possiblt 3rd if we had kept the faith, now......... who knows
Based on what evidence? our wins over Chelsea and Arsenal or all our other indifferent/terrible performances against the likes of Burnley, Hull, Fulham Bolton, Spurs.....

Yes very. The thing is though nobody can say for certain because he wasn't given the chance to.So we have to go off where we are when he left us which is 6th with a game in hand and in a cup semi final.Oh and with the target man striker we have needed badly for two years finally fit and giving the team a pressence(you no the one like Bellamy who is shit and Hughes only bought because he knows him).

We wud have had a good second half to the season and finished top 4 with hughes in charge. Now we seem to have picked some guy up from the bus stop!
