As we debate on whether to replace MP before seasons end to save our dwindling fortunes to avoid giving Pep his first taste of Europa ( great present Txiki ) and we say goodbye to the manager who not only has lost the dressing room for sure ala our previous manager the question has to be asked whether hiring MP in the first place would be viewed as the right choice for the time.

I title , 2 league cups , progress to the knock out stage in the Chumps League three times.

It of course without a doubt we will get smashed by PSG especially without VK , Joe , Sterling etc in the lineup so given that its time to start this debate.

Would we have been better placed now had we hired a younger more tactical , more forward thinking manager a manager who can set up the side to play attractive football without compromising the ability to defend and attack as a team.

We could think of a number of them and one of them is in charge of a side that will finish well above us this year.

My answer is it was a mistake as the charter of a manager is to at least leave the side in a better position and have a stronger team than the one he inherited.

Given all the investment over the past three years I would say we have regressed significantly both in performance level , attractiveness/entertainment value ( as evidenced by the number of people leaving the ground with still minutes of playing time left in a Derby FFS because most thought we had no hope of scoring which proved to be correct ).

Most managers any manager would have been able to get this squad competing effectively week in week out with what was available when MP took over so I don't think our title which won because Liverpool choked was largely due to his input.

The last two seasons we have seen the real MP which was always there from the beginning come to the fore.

I say we could have made a much better choice and would be much better placed to see the value of the likes of Nacho and one or two others irrespective of the injuries which in itself MP cannot absolve himself of completely either.

A classic point on Sunday when he shouldn't have even started with MDM , played Sagna at Centre Half , Zabba or Kolorov ( who he lost complete faith in now and vica versa ) which cost us our keeper for the remainder of the season.

Yep a mistake I reckon , what do the rest think.

Bit of a defeatist comment regarding PSG.

MP was a good appointment at the time. People forget we were a divided and underperforming team under Bobby and MP did bring a semblance of stability to the situation.

We gambled as a club in deciding to wait for Pep and in fairness MP did a reasonable job in light of FFP up to the middle of last season. The failure this season is a combination of many factors, not just the manager. It's easy to judge the decision to stick with him this season as poor in hindsight, but it would have been difficult to find someone willing to continue the holistic approach for one season.
We have to wait until Pep is in charge to see if the gamble has been worth it.

I think we could certainly have chosen someone who would have been better over the three years, but we don't have to downplay our achievement in winning the title in 2014. We didn't win it because Liverpool choked, we won it because we won our last five games, and did so with some brilliant controlled performances. Drawing at Palace was a bit of a choke, but one we didn't need at that point. If you don't want to give Pellegrini any credit, then you could argue it was still Mancini's team winning with collective muscle memory, but let's not detract from a well-deserved title.

At the beginning of the season when we renewed his contract and we were top of the table, most of us were saying its the best signing in the summer. But unfortunately, the gas ran out of the team after Pep announcement.

So "the real fans" leave five minutes early on Derby Day lol!

Sorry mate but I couldn't take your post seriously after your comment about early leavers. Each to their owni I suppose!

i stated on here before we got pelligrini that i wanted simione. some might not like his style be the bloke has a fantastic record and i doubt we would of been in this god awful mess we find ourselves in

A big mistake and we should never have got rid of Mancini.
I'm still raging about Pellegrini ruining the Wigan cup Final!

I question though if Tiki wanted the success from Mancini as he had a personal battle with him and knew if Mancini became so strong he could never get Pep

I think before MP was actually appointed the moves for Pep were already under way to take over from whoever we would employ before. It turned out to be MP because those that be, decided he was the best fit to sort out the issues we had at the end of bobby's time. At first it turned out to be a great move, league and cup double in the first season.

But bear in mind this was a team in RM's mould, it was defensively sound and had fluid attacking movement. The problem is that MP is not and nowhere near a good a tactician or able to defensively set up a team like RM did. Because of this our team lost its defensive nous as any team would over the course of 3 years with no direction being given.

Peller's flaws have come home to roost this season, throw into the mix an ageing squad in key areas and injuries to boot. People could say transfers but we actually bought the 2 most sort after CB's in Mangala and Otamendi when they were available, unfortunately they just haven't worked out - Yet

A different style of defensive duty (i.e. no high line for example) may actually suit their style better than what we do now

role on the summer please

So now Pellegrini is to blame for losing the cup final when he wasn't here. Any relegations we can put down to him?

Stopped reading the OP with his comment about the PSG game. Nothing in football is without a doubt
