The fact Chelsea are where they are, the Rags are shite, Liverpool are inconsistent, Arsenal have been typically up and down and we've still not won the league despite our squad is evidence of why Pellegrini's time at the club has been unsuccessful. We've qualified for the knockouts in the CL, brilliant. But we've got even further away from being a side capable of winning it so what does it matter? Our co-efficient is going to be better, but now, winning the league is more important than that so again what does that matter at the moment? Makes our group slightly easier, but we're still almost guaranteed a tough one.
And for all of his ability to get us to the knockouts, he might not qualify us for the CL this season which would completely trump any success he's had in the competition. One league title and two league cups. As much as the league cup is a major competition, we should only ever celebrate it if we've won it playing youth players or a weaker side. We're aiming far too high to worry about that. The FA Cup would be a celebrated achievement, the league cup shouldn't be celebrated too highly with our ambitions. We're looking at a City side failing to beat Leicester or Spuds to the title... as good as they've been the points tally they amass will be below what we'd expect to get each season.
