I think an ombudsman looked into their grievance and said that some of them should have compensation due to the fact that they didn't receive a letter from various governments over the last 30 years explaining the changes that had been approved to raise the state pension age.
However, the ombudsman can only make recommendations and has no legal power to give away tax payers money.
So basically, they are getting fuck all in the way of compensation.

Maybe they just expected to get something men didn't get for the next 30 years, everyone's pension ages go up but they want theirs to stay the same it sounds ridiculous doesn't it?

To not be informed about those pension changes you either had to be stupid or wilfully ignorant.

Which is exactly what I said previously in this thread earlier in the year.
Their sense of entitlement is off the scale.
And my wife was born in 1958 so is very definitely in the age range concerned, but we knew that the pension age was going up so made other financial arrangements to make sure we had a decent income for our retirement.

All some Ombudsmen do is award compensation from public and other bodies, but as you say this one Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, recommends compo as is normally complied with.

This will now cause a fall out between the PHSO and Gov.

From their annual report in the Summer:

"We have seen an increase in the number of recommendations not complied with. This is still extremely rare but an issue we treat seriously. As part of the State Pension age investigation we suggested a level 4 payment of between £1,000 and £2,950 for any person who can show they were affected. As we had reason to believe DWP would not comply, we recommended that Parliament decides on what level of compensation is required and how the system may work. This amount has not yet been determined."

The Gov may claim to investigate each case properly will cost more than the compo, as that was the gist from the speech.
