Watching your child play football

My little 4 / 5 year old wants to play Camoige which is hurling so picturing 30 plus kids running around with hurls something is going to get broken. But I would rather her play GAA Football instead.

They get to a certain point that's 'the breaker'.

It could be a poor coach / manager, other kids, successive bad results etc, and they start to lose heart.

It's important for the parent/s to make sure that the kid is enjoying playing, and not out of their depth.

When I was involved in coaching, we made sure that kids and parents were looked after, and kept up to date on progress. Even at under 9 or 10 level. If the lad wasn't enjoying playing, we'd work with their parent/s to identify the issue and sort it out.

Over the years, we had quite a number of lads who were struggling at the level, and liaised with other clubs to get them games at a 'lower' level.

They may not have improved, it may have been (at first) disappointing for the parent/s, but at the end of the day, the lads were enjoying playing football.

We tried to keep in touch with the lads and parents wherever possible to see how they were getting on. The parents appreciated that. As a club, we had a great set-up.

Enjoy watching your lad. It's one of life's grear gifts to see your child growing uo and enjoying themselves.

Not the wanker step dad are you :)

Haha no. I was a kid when they filmed it and was an extra in the film.

Was on set for two whole days and I’m in it for literally one second.

Parts of it were filmed in and around my school so we were allowed to apply to be extras.

It was so much fun just being on set near all the fancy cameras and lighting gear etc. The crew were amazing and Robert Carlyle hung around with us kids literally for hours and hours. Didn’t fuck off to his green room etc, was a properly nice guy.

Nice one it’s a great film mate
I’ve always liked Robert Carlyle as well so good to know he’s a proper bloke

Been watching my daughter for 3 years now.

The most important thing is making sure they’re playing at the right level.

If they’re standing out, move them on and up a level.
