Water Shortage

If you keep building as many new homes in areas like the home counties in the past ten years, then they needed to upgrade the utilities up with them.

Lot more people = using a lot more water (and everything)

Not hard.

Anyway, them southern softies can just open that big shiny flood barrier on the Thames a bit more, non?

I might have a solution

The urban sprawl in the South West is to blame. Houses are going up all over the place, but the infrastructure to support them just isn't there.

When did you hear of a major reservoir being built, or a dam being built in the UK? We've just completely stopped building the infrastructure. It doesn't help that the landscape's being changed - where water used to settle and drain underwater towards rivers, that land is now paved or tarmacked, so the water isn't going back into the rivers as it should.

Yeah the Mersey's quite full at the moment, but give it two weeks without rain and it soon drops again.

Have a look at the reservoirs on the way to Sheffield (Woodhead Pass?), they're not looking too full, and we've just come out of a hell of a rainy few months. Even though up here we have lots of rain and water, it's being used up as soon as it starts collecting in the reservoirs.

That's what you get when you privatise something like water. The infrastructure is old, crumbling and designed for a country with half of our population.
They've been too busy creaming off their bonuses for years instead of investing properly in the infrastructure. For a country that sees as much rainfall as this, to suffer from a water shortage is nothing short of scandalous. The cunts responsible should be lined up and fucking shot.

More people require more water to live to a decent standard something that seems to have escaped the brains trusts we've had running the country for the last 50 years. If your going to allow a rapid population rise then as a country you have invest in projects to service em roads, water supply, health care etc what have we done next to sod all.
