Watford (a) post-match

No;

97/98:
24/08/97: Barnsley 1 - 6 Chelsea
06/12/97: Spurs 1 - 6 Chelsea

99/00:
16/01/99: Leicester 2 - 6 United
06/02/99: Nott'm Forest 1 - 8 Man United

11/12:
23/10/11: Man United 1 - 6 Man City
14/04/12: Norwich 1 - 6 Man City

But we are without conceding off of that.

I didn't think either our first or third goal should have been disallowed. I don't claim I'm impartial or objective, but I don't think Watford's manager is either and the dugout is no place to try and judge an offside from. The slow motion replays I've seen since seem to show Aguero and Jesus to be just onside when the ball is played but it's so hard to judge when the ball IS played that, at that speed, with players who play right on the line, it is impossible to give offside with any certainty. The benefit of any doubt .is supposed to go to the attacker. I do feel some sympathy with Watford, who are clearly a pretty good team, but City were clearly a class apart in the PL on Saturday, as Tom Cleverley was generous enough to admit. What showed the change from last season for me took place in the 86th minute; we were 5-0 up, Sergio had completed his hattrick and Watford had a corner which was cleared and found its way to a Watford lad just outside our box. Sergio sprinted out and under pressure from him the Watford lad played it back 20 yards to a team mate on the half way line. Sergio kept running and forced Watford to play the ball all the way back to their keeper! That minute's play typified Sergio's, and City's, entire afternoon; 100% effort and commitment at a pace and tempo and with an intensity for 94 minutes which we had never seen before. SENSATIONAL.

I watched the match again & even if we'd had both offside goals ruled out & they'd scored with their 2 sitters & been given the penalty, we'd still have won 3-4.

We've had enough decisions go against us for me to be quite comfortable for these to go in our favour, however we must look to our immediate future. We only have one left back, 2 strikers & 4 fit CB's with one being Tosin & the other Mangala.

It's gonna be a long season & a couple of key injuries could stall our progress, if not derail us as we saw last season. This is why I've continually stated we're still a work in progress until we address these potential short comings.

I honestly think that Delph, Mangala & Danilo could become crucial to our season.

I thought we took our foot off the gas for 15-20 mins after the 3rd goal. It was quite a slow start to the 2nd half. I think that if either or both goals had been disallowed we would just have sustained the pressure for longer until they broke.

Tight calls or not, the first and third goals were offside. The Aguero one was an incredibly close and difficult call, given all the players in close proximity to each other. But the Jesus one wasn't that difficult a call; only one defender near him and it was on the same side of the box as the linesman. We've been pissed off at poor decisions going against us this season, so we can't just ignore the ones that go our way.
