One of these days we are going to rise to the occasion in a European home game.

We already should have, a long time ago. We can make excuses and some of them have validity (mostly about the referees who are beyond dodgy), but first and foremost we have to look at a). a style that has worked very well domestically, but makes us look on par with the likes of Roma and Valencia in Europe, rather than Juventus and Barcelona, and b). players who seem unable to concentrate and play with full intensity for 90 minutes in this competition.

You could say arguably in any competition.

Just when we have that 20 minute dazed lull in non-CL games sides rarely take advantage. We're not often beyond something calamitous though.

I thought last season's CL campaign where we got 15 points would have sorted out the mental issues, but they still seem to remain. It's only 3 games, and to be honest I thought we've been OK for all but 45 mins against CSKA (the 2nd half). 1st half against Roma we started very slowly despite Aguero's penalty, but after that we ended up well on top. And Bayern are a seriously good team that would beat most teams.

Maybe we're being a bit harsh. No excuses against CSKA at home. Need the supporters to play their part this time. Roma home was an embarrassment. Not necessarily in terms of numbers but in terms of the lack of support on the night. City fans don't seem to have any excitement for the Champions League.....I think we've been conditioned by our experiences.

Still think we will qualify, beat CSKA at home leaves us on 5, you'd expect Bayern to beat Roma which would leave them on 4

Roma 'should' beat CSKA which will put them on 7, anything we get from Bayern is a bonus but if we get beat it will mean having to win in Rome

Basically we have to beat CSKA and win in Rome
Even if we draw in Rome by the time Bayern come here they will be cert top of the group and playing a second string which we should beat and go through.

Bayern come here brfore we go to ROme

The problem we have is that if we beat CSKA then CSKA are very likely to finish bottom of the group and might not be motivated to play Roma.

We really need to go to Roma ahead of them so that means beating Bayern. Unikely they will rest players as they have no opposition in the Bundesliga as Dortmund are near the relegation zone

Bayern will probably hammer us like last season..

How about we play the bloody game first before throwing in the towel?

I'm not usually a pessimist and I'm not being now, but realistically we are out. Just can't see us beating Bayern and we've already dropped our must win points

No we are not.

Week 4

1) We are favored to beat Moscow

2) Bayern is favored to beat Roma

Week 5

1) We very likely will play Bayern's 2nd team making us favorites.

2) Roma likewise will play Moscows 2nd team making Roma favorites.

Week 6

Winner takes all.

We should go all out for qualification now, looking at the tables at the half way point I would fancy us against a lot of the potential group winners in the last 16 round, at present and if the groups go to form we will be looking at meeting one of the following if we qualify as runners up:

A Madrid (I would fancy City to beat them over 2 legs as they are not as strong this season)
R Madrid (obviously we would struggle)
Bayern Leverkussen (again I would fancy us)
Dortmund (I would fancy us as they have had a terrible start to the season, loosing 5 out of 8 games and are 5th from bottom)
PSG/Barca (we would struggle)
Porto (we would see them off over 2 legs)

there are only 2 teams who we could get who could cause us real problems in my opinion, that's Madrid and Barca/PSG. As all the Spanish teams will probably win their groups that leaves the draw wide open for them to get anyone so there is a 66% chance we could get a team we are capable of beating in my opinion.
