It’s not classed as a friendly. It’s classed as a minor trophy and goes on clubs’ Honours records, whereas things like the Thomas Cook Trophy or Asia Cup don’t as they are just friendlies.

Even the goals scored in the CS are counted towards players’ career goals, whereas the actual friendlies aren’t.

It was declassified as a competitive game by the FA in 2014. The FA's take was that it simply doesn't count (results, goals, cards etc etc) to any official stats i.e it is a pre-season friendly.
