Spot on mate. I hope one day you're back in the Prem - the sooner the better. Hillsbrough was always one of my favourite away days. Quick ride on the train and those wooden seats in the stand. Proper stadium. I remember a 1-1 draw with Quinn scoring under Ball and a 6-2 win for us under Keegan when Bernarbia was awesome.
Good luck Wednesday.
Been to Maine rd a couple of times...only once in your new place when you beat us in a cup replay...I preferred Maine Rd to be honest, but I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to football...I like grounds to sort of loom up outta the fog...rather than smack you in the face from a mile away lol...besides..in those days..it was safer in the fog
Nice one mate! I've always thought Wednesday were a good lot. I remember going in your end at Hillsbrough with my Dad when I was about ten. It was last game of the season 1-1 draw. Surrounded by Wednesday fans I jumped up when Beagrie scored and my Dad tried to get me to sit down quick as he was trying to stay unnoticed but everyone around us said "it's okay mate, we quite like City us lot!" On the way out a few blokes shook my Dad's hand and gave me a pat on th back. SheffU got relegated that day too! Also went in 2001-02 when we beat you 6-2 (Benarbia and Goater on fire!) and on the way out all the Wednesday fans were saying "best team in this league hope you do well in the Premiership next season". Never saw any bother in the FA Cup draw a few years ago neither.
You're dead right about clubs like United and Liveprool not having a clue about being in a dark place as in not knowing whether you'll be playing at Saltergate or Sincil Bank, or even if you'll be in business next season. All the while sticking by your club wherever it may be. Proper football, if you like.
I'm glad I went through all that. It's made me a better football fan and it's made me appreciate exactly what we've got now. Come Sunday IF we end up winning the title it will mean more to me than the 19 the Rags have won put together. Hopefully we can do it!
Good luck in the Championship this season. You've got a good manager (he's the Grandad of my mates step son!) and an owner who will make you a better club. I'd like another FA Cup tie at your place next season (I always want the big clubs in divisions below: Wednesday, Forest, Leeds...).
