Shay has gotten us out of the shit many a time this season. Sometimes as a result of being able to get down quick and throwing his body in front of a shot.

We don't need a tall keeper. We need someone like Shay.

As has been alluded to in this thread , at the opposite end today we had , in my view , one of the best City Keepers ever.
Again, in my time, I ve seen amongst others Corrigan,Macrae,Williams,Weaver,Burridge,James ,Schmeicel,Immel,Weaver(thank you) Dibble, Seaman and Hart. If anyone can lay a claim to any of them being better than Given then I m willing to listen.

Corrigan once he turned serious and lost his weight was an exceptional keeper, seem to remember him single-handedly keeping us up one year. Schmeicel in his prime would give the lot of 'em (including Shay) a ten-break.

the op does have a point!

if given commanded his area on corners and freekicks by coming for the ball a lot more he would be the no.1 worlds best keeper.

But that's Utopia. We have the best keeper in the league at this moment in time and in the top 5 or 6 in the world. Pity we can't say the same at left back!!

Given is great yes but.! he gives me the shits everytime we concede a corner.I know youll say hes the best in the prem but id like to feel a bit more confident at defending set pieces,corners etc.Maybe im being a bit critical but i just wish he had it all in his locker.

I totally agree with you! I think Shay Given is THE best shot stopper ive EVER seen, however, look again at Uniteds 3rd goal against us on Wed and Rooney heads the ball in from 5 yards out - altho his marker should have stayed with him THAT SHOULD BE THE GOALKEEPERS BALL!

I love Shay, I really think he is a good keeper! but when we're looking to become a dominant force in this country I think we need a keeper that dominates his area well, collects crosses, organises marking at set pieces, shouts to notify players about short corners, when he does collect the ball has his eyes open for a quick outlet with a good kick or BIG throw - unfortunately Given does not have any of these things in his locker!

If you disagree with me, then of course you are entitled to your opinions, but you don't know what a goalkeeper is if you can't see what Shay has missing from his game!
