We really do have the best fans in the world.

Hopefully the Investigatory Chamber looks into this, and make sure he’s self-funded all of those ticket points.

We have to protect the Legacy fans because they invented Manchester City. It belongs to them.
No, I paid for the lot as a good parent or guardian - I know some others can't afford it unless it is a big game when money becomes no object and they are suddenly millionaires.

I was the first on here so suggest a 10 year rolling loyalty points system over ten years ago. Maybe one other person supported it, it wasn't an issue for most people then, but it was exactly the same just less demand.

WTF, Legacy Fans, we are still alive a legacy is somthing you leave behind when your dead, and am not dead ?

What a load of bollocks, so people suggest that i have my points taken away because someone who has just turned up wants to to take my seat is having a Fxxxxxx Laugh, also who says the new supporter will stay a supporter, i have seen many come and go, I have had a season ticket since 74, when I die then you can pick the bones out of my past, that will be my Legacy.

Just because I am old i cant sing, Fxxx me Tom Jones outsings any of the current crap out their.

I’ve been plenty luv, Lincoln away, Barnsley away, hundreds of away games, done the “hard yards”.

But I don’t think that should entitle me lock out anyone under 25 from ever attending away games until I die.

The “Super League” of away fans.

My youngest son went and he’s seventeen. To Porto, not Lincoln or Barnsley.

Well done on your hundreds of away games including Lincoln and Barnsley luv

Fantastic, I’m glad your son got to go and didn’t have to wait for anyone to die before he got a chance.

Hopefully more lads his age get the chance to go to away games. And not just the ones with swell dads.

My under 25 easily qualified - people don't decide to support city at 18.
Same here my lads 25, his first game was Wrexham at home, he’s paid his own way , at last, for almost 8 years now aswell. He goes to nearly all always, goes all over Europe and has earned every point, 18000 of them. That’s how you get a CL Final ticket. What pisses me and him off he always manages to get away tickets but rarely using his points, strange this, as upto that fukin tunnel club and other corporate gimmicks we both qualified for all away games. That is the real problem….pampering to corporates…. Nearly every away game I’ve been to in the last 3 years I’ve been surrounded by ….southerners.
For me it all started at Villa then later Norwich I was surrounded by a load of plastic cockneys who thought Yaya was Balotelli ffs

Are we really arguing over how good our fanbase is. I know it’s still a bit raw after the weekend but I think some are being way too harsh. Singing songs really loudly doesn’t make a great set of fans. Although sounds great on the tv it’s really not the be all. I feel the last few years we have a real complex about our support/fanbase.

The constant sniping in the press, the empithad bullshit the have you sold out yet brigade can obviously take its toll and less to some complexities but the reality is that our fans/fanbase are one of the best. We still have our humour and humility. I’ve met some of the nicest people watching City and been looked after and welcomed by City fans when they have noticed I was watching on my own. Genuinely boys and girls of all the things that we can look negatively we should definitely not include ourselves in this.

I loved seeing the photos of the blues in Porto and all the different flags displaying the badge for the world to see. I have such admiration for those that weighed out thousands to get out there and watch the game, the stress and sacrifices they made.

so in essence, yes, yes we do have a great fanbase.

And that is down to those who get tickets outside the diminishing points system. It isn't the fans with high points who are the problem, just a shame of the massive cuts of allocating tickets to points.

I am not going to away games anyway now. I got my lad his ticket 2 hours before kick off in Porto. If the older ones don't back off the future is not there.
I know your hearts in the right place there mate but to suggest that many thousands of older blues should back off is mind boggling. City is rather important and has been for many years and there’s no way on this earth I would have missed Porto for the sake of somebody I don’t know who may or may not chant and scream louder that me.

For what it’s worth my 31y lad had a ticket in his own right and my 29y old could have had one. They have had season tickets since they were 11 though which in my mind puts things in perspective.

And can we stop with the self congratulatory pensioner led “great effort from the fans” “had to jump through hoops” “real hassle but i made the effort” “extortionate prices but I had to be there” narrative

It’s a fucking leisure activity, we go because we want to and we enjoy it. Nobody reads that kind of stuff and thinks “wow what an admirable fellow”
I think they do.....loads (mainly old gits) simply couldn’t be arsed.

fair play to all that went imo

i have 24,770 points and my 17 year old son has just short of 22,000 points so don't say younger fans cannot accumulate the points cos they can if they put the hard work in and don't pick their games some fans on here sound like rag fans " i can't ever get a ticket" , as for fans in Porto being shit what a load of shite, was in stadium and City fans outsang Chelsea until probably last 20 minutes or so, as for someone earlier saying younger fans aren't cut out as they were weeping just because they haven't suffered relegations doesn't mean they don't love the club as much as us older ones, they aren't used to the misery we had to endure , we were used to suffering, Saturday hurts but come August we go again and support our club no matter what

I can’t believe some people are having this argument. If those complaining want someone to blame then blame Covid. Because if this game takes place in normal times then we get something like 16,000 tickets as opposed to 6,000 and many more people further down the points list would’ve gotten a ticket.

I made the observation earlier in the thread that a lot of the younger fans who were bouncing around the river side on Friday and Saturday didn’t appear to be in the ground but on the flip side to that 2 of my mates - aged 50 and 53 - were out in Porto but didn’t get tickets and that’s despite them having been season ticket holders for a combined total of over 60 years. Neither of them have moaned about it like some on here though. They accepted the situation and decided to do the trip partly because they hoped they would get lucky with a ticket over there but also knew it would be a blast regardless of whether they had tickets or not. And they were right IMO. In typical City fashion it was a great weekend apart from 90 minutes of football.

I missed out in the last window but got a ticket via UEFA for a king's ransom. Over the years my circumstances have changed, I dont have enough points so I can rarely get a ticket for any away game. And so I have sourced tickets through other people for games at Barcelona, Bolton, Borussia Moenchengladbach, Brighton, Bristol Rovers, Burton Albion as examples, and they're just the clubs beginning with a letter B! It's not that I haven't been to games; I just don't have enough points and never will have.
I have been on all of the Cup schemes from day one and have had a season ticket for 40 years and had seen City play on nearly every ground in England, although with so many newcomers to the League that we have never played, that has changed.
The issue isn't about hard work or loyalty. For many it's about affordability and the real problem with the points system started on the day the club decided to sell points via Platinum.
That's the issue right there.

It’s also worth pointing out that fans didn’t need just short of 22,000 points to get a ticket as well. Anyone with over 13,000 points would’ve got one when they qualified as long as they were on the CL cup scheme. It doesn’t take a gazillion years to amass 13,000 points if you sign up to all the cup schemes and do a few away games each season.
Also, if you had the points but were not on the CL cup scheme then you can’t complain that you can’t get a ticket for the biggest game in our history in the CL.

Everyone slagging off our support couldn't have been in Porto.

We literally took over the City. We outnumbered Chelsea fans 10 to 1. I spoke to a few of their fans and they couldn't believe how many City fans made the trip.

We were nervous in the ground, but we were very loud when we got going. Chelsea had a free hit - they were the underdogs and all of them went expecting to lose. Our fans expected to win and the performance was shambolic!

wish pep could see that last sentence ....

I think that for the telly watching city fan it was frustrating. We could see things had gone pear shaped but really wanted to hear the fans get behind the team. Instead we could only hear Chelsea fans and when they cut to the city fans in the stadium , they were stood with arms folded looking as down as we felt at home. Maybe it was the placing of bt mics and cameras picking out certain sections of fans, but we can only comment on how it came across on tv.
As for coverage in the city itself, it was obvious that we had the bigger presence.

so your son who you probably took to games with for years has 22,000 points?

most people are not as fortunate to have parent pay for them. I’d like to know how a 19 year old who’s started going to games gets 22,000 points? Or has any chance at all of going to bigger games like the champions league final
. You say put the hard yards in, but that would take years. I can guarantee when you were younger you had access to the bigger games or atleast a chance of going.

certain games it’s very difficult to get tickets for unless you’ve been going for years, are loaded or know someone.

most people outside the ground appeared young, most inside were 60+. I think it’s clear we have an issue with younger fans unable to get access to tickets
