Yup have to agree on this.......although we have destabilised some of our rivals eg Barry, it does rather annoy me to be paying over the odds for players.

It is for this exact reason why we need to start looking abroad, especially for defenders. no point paying 30 mil for lescott when he is worth 15 MAX!!! Id rather have proven chammps league defenders who fancy trying out the premiership for size, Mexes, Luisao, Maicon, lahm, metzelder

Adebayor could go either way. Tevez was fantastic, don't care how much he cost.

I suspect Chelsea missed out on an opportunity by selling Chelsea, I'm sure they could have done better in the long term with the money that we would have been prepared to give him. But he would have been such an impact signing I think it would have been worth it anyway.

Toure - suspect Wenger can't believe his luck, likewise if we get near the sums talked about for Lescott or Upson.

To be fair we are always going to have to pay over the odds for players as Clubs know we have an endless supply. So far however we have done resonably well though..

Tevez... The rags match the price
Barry... Liverpool bid £5m last summer
Ade-- Milan were sniffing at £5m more last summer
RSC-- No defence Blackburn did us but lets be honnest do we need to worry about Blackburn & that ilk anymore

any 4 from Zab, Richards, Ned,Bridge, Kompany, lescott, Upson, Toure should do ok for us with an experiecened keeper behind them and half decent coaching for set pieces/ positioning etc (Time for Messers Bowen et al to step up)

I have every confidence we will be top 6 next season and could make top 4 if 1 of the sky 4 has a wobble

Top 6 should be achievable with Lescott and Upson (although I'd be very underwhelmed if we bought Upson).

But we should be looking higher, and looking to build a squad that wioll take us to the next level from there. Someone like Upson will just need to be replaced in a year or so.

Yes, Upson is not a good addition to the squad, well not an improvement anyway. Perhaps we have to take a risk in this position like other top teams. They have not always gone for proven players from that league. IMO our scouts should be submitting names and data about all top players around Europe and beyond if necessary. This may be happening but I don't think so.

We can't get Terry, Vidic or other 'top' CBs in the league, so we should be looking for a foreign equivalent, not plan Bs like Upson

so you would much rather gamble on a player who is proven in the champions league rather than proven premiership?

and for the record maicon is a good player but going forward and is shite at defending and i would put mexes in the same group.

i cant believe we are on the verge of something really great and yet theres still moaning twats moaning that we are going for thw wrong CLASS defenders rather than look abroad for them.

i was all for signing Lescott until i found out it was 'wrong' to give money to other premier league clubs. Lets not forget Everton and Wolves will receive money if this goes through!!
