If Toure and Upson is our CB pairing. Apparently our pursuit of Upson is gathering pace. Shocking.

Manchester City could be readying a bid for West Ham United's centre-back Matthew Upson, following John Terry's decision to remain loyal to Chelsea - the only club he has represented throughout his professional playing career.

According to a report in The Times, which follows suit to a similar speculative piece published in The Mirror, City will not take Terry's snub to heart, and will continue their quest to significantly bolster their backline.

Upson is now regarded as England's first reserve, and has often been called into action by Three Lions boss Fabio Capello when either captain John Terry or team-mate Rio Ferdinand are unavailable.

The 30-year-old allegedly attracted admiring glances from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during the winter window, as the Gunners sought a defensive partner for former skipper William Gallas.

Ivorian international Kolo Toure has fallen down the pecking order at N5 and is still on City's shortlist of transfer prospects. A £10-15 million offer is apparently on the cards.

Who the bloody hell has let you lose on a computer, they deserve locking up.

I see the forum troll is trying to hop on my nuts already ffs.

welcome aboard no airs and graces with you, love that! and i second what you say, dont slag the guy to much tho, his knowledge of world football is 1st class (apparentley) and he spoke to 2 arsenal fans on another forum and they stated toure was shit (apparentley) so he is blatantly 100% correct in everything he says (apparentley)

I was happy with Toure when I thought he might be third choice behind Terry and Lescott...

I could cope with Toure and Lescott.

Upson is a bit of a concern. Always flattered to deceive for me. Would be a desperation signing, and while not a disaster, not what we need (or expect).

If Upson and Toure is the best we can do I will be revising my expectations downwards.

Would rather have lescott than terry ,Terry ctied in court, the so called hardman is a pussy ,nuff said.....

liverpool did well last year with a dodgy back 4....

totally agree - a lad at work he is a scouse bin dipping get and he took great pleasure e-mailing me a picture of terry's all gold and said that's the nearest we would get to terry!

Anyway - i reckon we are in a far better position than them, long term i mean and forgetting history and once the summer is over i reckon man for man we will better (on paper) than them.

He thought i was having a spliff in the office!

I stand by it though!

You must have the 4th best squad in the Prem. Even last season you had a top 6 squad, but as you all know, that means nothing.

Consistency was a massive problem for you, and you seemed to have a few problems in the dressing room....In my opinion, the way to get round this problem is to NOT go and sign 2 more players well known for their bad attitude.

You need to have more than just a good squad on paper, you need to have a great team spirit and work ethic, even in your top players.

This is Hughes job, he has the hardest job in the prem, he needs to keep everyone happy, I just don't see that happening, you wont have that many big games to utilize ALL these top players.

You may get top 6, but that wont be easy.

A very fair and well thought out point. I think personally that so long as Tevez stays fit and puts in good performances he will be our first choice on the right and Ade will be first choice up front in the same circumstance. This will keep them happy. RSC (if fit) will come on as a possible sub for Ade in the last 2o mins+ as will either Bellers or SWP for Tevez/Robbie. Bellamy has already stated he is prepared to fight for his place (without golf clubs I hope) and Robbie won't be GUARANTEED a start if he's off form anymore (Still will come on for impact in the second half).

I think it will be a difficult juggling act but it can be done particularly if we have long cup runs. If we get put out early doors Hughes' job will become increasingly difficult.

I think if that the way you play, You may well have 4 unhappy players. RSC, Robby, Bellemy and SWP, remember its world Cup year, and SWP will want to play quite alot, but he obviously loves City, so he may not be a big problem.

Bellemy is a cúnt, he will be a problem, but he has been at you too long now, he is due his move soon!!!

Robby may be a problem, he was your star last year, he may not be this year and that may push his nose out!!

BUT.....if it works, an Hughes gets it right.....then your in for one hell of a season....!

*You may start selling out away from home again now!!

*Come on, couldn't resist that!!!!

to compete with the top four we need a squad, now with two defenders we should better the top four teams in different areas. it doesn t mean we are there- but we can compete! i m with hughes all the way!! disagree! top six!!
