Right, I need a new career path and was considering getting into Web Design and was wondering whether any BM'er's did this for a living and could possibly reccomend some software to practice on, tutorials or college course etc.

Cheers in advance!

Hi, you'll need to learn HTML and CSS, this website can be pretty good for those: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.w3schools.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.w3schools.com/</a>

Once you have got those under your belt, find a website to teach you some basics to JavaScript, Flash (GUI and Actionscript) and Photoshop (Priming images for web).

I'd recommend against using dreamweaver until you have learnt to do everything for yourself. Have a play around with it by all means but I wouldn't even put it on my CV if it was me, it's generally frowned upon, more so to do with it's history of being crap/newbie software.

I know a few people in the industry and what you said is spot on mate. Although with dreamweaver its not so much frowned upon as a lot of designers like to use it just to save time really. I know a few that use it when first writing a website then preform the real coding later. I'm on a web design course at uni at the moment and our lecturer said pretty much what you said apart from the dreamweaver bit.

But if you wanna make any real money in the industry you need to learn how to create database driven sites, which is learning PHP/ASP etc. It's not too difficult to learn the basics, but unless you can do this your websites will be very limited.
