Welcome Abdukodir Khusanov

Stones, Dias are both dominant in the air and Ake is quite good too. What stood out for me about Kompany was his ability to defend one on one. Very few forwards would beat him. Stones can do that too, but Stones doesn't play much. Dias and Ake can struggle for pace when exposed one on one. I think Khusanov will partner Dias in the long term.

I liked Dave Watson too. Tony Book's side of the 1976 was the first City side I remember. They were good for about 4 seasons maybe and those were the last good times we would know for about 30 years apart from the briefest of interludes with John Bond, Kendall/Reid and Brian Horton. The good times returned under Joe Royle, Watson's old team mate. I think they would have played together?
Keith Curle was a decent player. We paid a then record price for a defender. £2.5 million I think

Absolutely agree where our lack of aerial dominance is concerned. Not sure this fella is the answer though given that his figures suggest he's good but perhaps not great in the air. It is clear, however, that he's a natural defender!

However, it appears I could be wrong if the following quote is anything to go by. Here's hoping.

"He's a powerful defender known for his strong interceptions, aerial ability, and aggressive style," says Thomas Bullock, journalist and Central Asian researcher for Football Manager.

Interesting.

I reckon Ligue 1 is probably more physical than the PL nowadays so will be interested to see how this translates

Yeah, they overlapped. When Watson arrived, he looked just the ticket. Solid as a bloody rock. Him and Tueart, what a couple of acquisitions! Thank you Sunderland! (There was a third, Horswill, who never really made it). When I think back, there was so much talent in that team — it really is tragic that they only won the League Cup. They should have won a couple of First Division titles, at least. Perhaps the only weak player in that line-up was Mike Channon, and even he occasionally had good days.

Quite a good vid to see his current level. A few mistakes in there, and managed to handball it to give away a pen whilst elbowing Martinelli in the face! But you can see the tenacity, pace and composure on the ball and it's that promise we're buying - although I'd be happy for him to elbow Martinelli in the face again.

Yes but we can be quite stationary. Seen it more than once

As the previous poster said, we need to more dominate
I believe that in every season prior to this, City have conceded the fewest set piece goals, all the time using zonal marking. It’s not the systems fault that we suffered badly for a period as players lost form/couldn’t be rotated out.
