To be honest I thought he didn’t show for the ball at all and I can understand why. It was a nightmare debut but he is young and thrown into the lions den today.

It was no Jonathan Woodgate. Grew into it after his errors, and perfect management from Pep to allow him the applause from the crowd. The kid will be absolutely fine.

Akanji not taking charge of the situation was strange and Eddie telling him “if in doubt punt it out” in Portuguese was about 3 minutes too late

Grew into the game.
Helped out by Bernardo who was absolutely everywhere and dropped deep to help him out early on when he was struggling.
He gave him the option of a pass or took the ball off him, that took the pressure off.
Well done Bernardo.

The funny side of it is the Uzbek fans on Instagram now desperately trying to defend the mistake. Had someone claim it was a "minor" mistake. It's football, these things happen from time to time.

Pep said he didn’t want to risk Stones, which is understandable under the circumstances and considering Stones injury record.
If Khusanov hadn’t been on a yellow we may not have seen Stones at all.

Poor lad, I felt for him, hard job as a youngster being paired with akanji.

He will learn from this and I'm glad it was a mistake that hasn't cost us anything.
