Welcome Donnarumma!

Because Liverpool and Arsenal are the strongest teams in England, they are our main rivals. Donnarumma is the best vs the best.

AI calculated his saves to shots ratio in the KO CL games last season (all of them): 80,65%! Good luck finding someone better in the KO stages.
Again fine but if his overall average according to what has been posted on here several times is only 66% then he must be having some bad games to offset the high bar that you keep on throwing out, also not much cop being the best v the best,⁴ if you are shite v the shite.

Not that any of that has to do with my original point tbh but you've become hell bent on defending him, whilst I wasn't even attacking him, best left alone now.

An honest question, what build up? A huge hit to us making 1,000 passes around our box at 2 miles per hour until someone commits a bozo and it costs us? Ederson's best moments in recent times have been his long passes, especially to Holland. This so-called build up from the back hasn't produced fruit in quite some time. How about we keep it honest...
Tbh that's some fucking long ball

So now we have to sit here and defend a world class goalkeeper before he's played a single minute in our uniform. This place is becoming a joke.
It was just a comment and certainly not a criticism.
Not that it’s anything to do with you, but I’m delighted we’ve signed him, as I’ve consistently posted throughout this thread.

I haven’t been critical of Ederson. What's more, I think some fans have gone over the top criticising his performances.

Now, I haven't watched Donnarumma enough to have a firm opinion. But I trust the opinion of experts that he is one of the best keepers in the world. Their opinion was confirmed by the CL games I watched, specifically vs Liverpool and Arsenal.

What about the stats? Maybe they are not as telling about his quality as some think. PSG play very attacking football and may be a bit too open, especially in the domestic league, which leads to high quality chances for the opposition. Also, they play weakened sides in the league, as they can afford to rotate.

Anyone who thinks our club hasn't done a thorough research on his strengths and weaknesses is being naive. I guess some people don't know the most relevant stats or how to make sense of them.

It is a laughing stock. I like James Trafford, but some suggest he is better than Donnarumma. We have the audacity to mock liverpool or united fans, yet we are no better with such ridiculous claims.

Trafford better than Donnarumma? Yes, Mainoo is better than Rodri, and Ekitike is better than Haaland :).

There's no greater red flag on people's assessment of a player than an age below 25 and English nationality.

The side that just won the Champions League wouldn't be letting him go if he was that good. I imagine Trafford will start.

Do you know why PSG were willing to let him go?

I mean it's only been mentioned at least 30 times on this thread and others over the last 2 weeks

It didn't take long did it.

Not played for City yet, and the Red top tabloids are already questioning him.

Did you watch it? I just watched the highlights. Here's what I saw:

Disallowed goal: Donnarumma flaps at it badly and gets lucky - pretty soft foul in my view - needs to be stronger.
Goal 1 - Comical own goal - Donnarumma does nothing wrong.
Goal 2 - Fantastic strike - no chance
Save - Great double save around 75 mins to keep it at 3-2
Goal 3 - Another comical own goal - no chance and does nothing wrong
Goal 4 - Defenders allow two free headers in the box from an inswinging free kick, which makes him look like he's in no-man's land. I could be very critical and say he should come for the initial ball, but I think he's got to trust his defenders there, because it's not really central enough for him to be confident of getting there.

Other than that, a few fairly routine saves on the highlights I saw, but no spills and decent handling every time.

Honestly, if we ignore the first disallowed goal, I'd say it's a very unkind reading of the game to suggest he struggled. Obviously any keeper letting in 4 is going to be furious, but none of them were his fault in my book.

That is fine, but even at 71.9% it is hardly better than Ederson and people think he was poor at traditional keeping

If context matters, why just the CL stats on 4 cherry-picked games?

It wasn't really about Trafford, more to do with the stat that the best keeper in the world had a worse shot-to-goal ratio than the one leaving, when people were claiming that he would be a vast improvement in that department.
Last season (when he got most criticism) Ederson was 2nd to Pickford in having the best stats for expected goals saved. His shot stopping was underestimated.
