We want any new signing to succeed, and we all know what we've lost as we say goodbye to Ederson; the greatest ball-playing keeper of all time.
I've seen a lot of Donnarumma an,d imho, saying he's the best keeper in the world isn't an exaggeration.
Whilst we lose a very good goalie who can bail us out at the back defensively and start passages of play comfortably, there are several goalies in the Premier League who are better shot stoppers than Ederson; there are none better than Donnarumma.
It's a trade off - we were losing Ederson anyway and when the best becomes available, it would be madness not to sign him. All due respect to Trafford, but he's young and it means we have the best pair of 1 & 2 goalkeepers in the league/world.
I look back over the last 6/7 years at the number of times we've conceded a goal from the opponent's 1st attack, or counter-attack. I'm hoping that Donnarumma will improve us in that area. As for him not commanding his box, did Ederson? I submit, "No."
Ederson had a fantastic game in Istanbul. Donnarumma's done that over and over - and I hope that's what we're getting; consistent superb shot stopping and great reflexes. We can live with any other short-comings in comparison to Ederson.
Let's hope Donnarumma hits the ground running today.
