Welcome Joao Cancelo

BBC still quote the transfer as 60m without any mention of Danilo.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49254091

"Champions Manchester City signed Portugal right-back Joao Cancelo from Juventus for £60m on Wednesday evening, but title rivals Liverpool are not expected to make any new additions."

I’m defence the page you linked seemingly favours spending and incomings rather than outgoings and with the greatest respect to Danilo, a squad player leaving us isn’t anywhere near as newsworthy as brining in a £60m replacement. On the article dedicated to his signings it mentions Danilo’s departure and fee directly underneath cancelo’s.

Hm..but it's not proper reporting when it implies we spend 60m when in fact it's only about 25m. When there is so much scrutiny our how City conducts transfers, it should've been made clear. And remember Sanchez was always mentioned as a free transfer instead of 30m.

Why do you care?

And the fee for Cancelo was £60M, which is a record for a full back! 2019 transfer fees are verging on obscene, but staying the PL and CL pays it all back and then some.

Have a look at Villa! Paid about £100M for a new team they hope can keep them in the PL and on the gravy train!

Haha BBC reporting it as 73 million dollars this morning , well it sounds bigger doesn't it !

You treat them separately:

Going back to previous quote:

Taking Danilo’s book value into account

(27m amortised over 2 years of a 5 year contract).

His book value was about £17m.

We’ve sold him for 34 so made about 17m on him.

Cancelo’s fee is 60m so that’s 12m a year amortisation.

This means this year we’ll make a net 5m in our p&l 17m profit on the sale of Danilo less the 12m amortisation on Cancelo.

For years 2-5 of cancelo’s contract we’ll see a 12m hit to our p&l.

Cheers very well explained.

Doesn’t Lucas Hernandez €80m to bayern count as the highest for a full back?

Im actually not bothered. Accounting wise both clubs make profits on sale, which unfortunately is now important

Excited about this, don’t think Kyle will be preferred choice at right back for very long

Looked at this thread for for insights into Cancelos style of play and how it will affect the team dynamic. Instead got a detailed report on the financial details of our transfer deals. Can we have a separate forum for city's financial dealings so I can avoid them, as they bore the crap out of me.
