Julian Alvarez's agent, Fernando Hidalgo: "I heard many who said that the City Football Group bought him, but no. Julián was not going to accept it. If he left River, it was for something better. The negotiation went from club to club." [via @ESPNFutbolArg]

He's on the brink of making the Argentina WC squad, he wasnt gonna move without playing time, the loan suits us both right now. He's tied down, under a manager we know and like, he gets playing time. I expect the deck to be shuffled in Summer with maybe two out of the frontline sold or shopped around.
 
This is very intriguing. I think the days are gone by when we made signings from anywhere that hadn't been very carefully scrutinised. Mind you, who was that guy from Colombia, I think it was – was it Marlos Moreno? – who was a a total and complete flop.
Got a better feeling about this one, though. Argentinians seem to do well at City, on the whole! ;-)
Anybody on this forum who lives in Latin America and who's seen anything of this guy?
 
I am delighted. That fee for such potential is a fantastic deal for the club and I really hope to see him gracing our front line next season.

Its more like the Jesus signing than a CFG one. He went back to Palmeiras until their Libertadores run was complete.

Same thing is happening here only we’ve signed him before their season rather than midway like Jesus. Probably also muddied by the WC in November.

Ultimately it’s not the right time to bring him over, we know what Pep is like during the run in and his minutes would be limited. He’s tied down now and July or Next Jan works better for all parties - by then we should have sorted our striker situation and have a better idea where Jesus/Sterling/Mahrez contracts are heading.

If he's 22 and we don't think he can get playing time over Grealish, Jesus, Foden or Sterling, none of whom are very good at all as a central striker, how good can this guy really be?
