Batty was the first English player that understood how to play as a defensive midfielder. The others of his generation thought they just needed to be pretty static in front of the centre backs. Batty understood that he needed to read situations when out of possession and to make himself available when his team had the ball.Batty was an excellent player.

Just managed to get to watch the interview with him. Maybe it's me, but I didn't think the interview had much of a flow to it. Mainly down to the interviewer, I feel. Seemed to be a scattergun approach to the questioning. Compare it to Khaldoon's annual end of season pieces. Chris Bailey is excellent in his role.

I loved Batty as a player. I think Phillips has a lot more range to his passing though.Batty was an excellent player.
One of the things I like about him at Leeds is he always looks for a forward pass, which is so important in that 6 role for our shape.
I don’t think he looks quite as good for England playing alongside Rice, but I’m guessing Pep’s not going to play him alongside Rodri too often.

I strongly suspect that it's much more rehearsed. In any case, there are no questions that Bailey asks that take the chairman by surprise.
