Thanks but no thanks Marv. I'll enjoy the day. Next week will take care of itself. Maybe we'll lose who knows. One things for sure we could win 10-0 and there'd still be nothing but hate and vitriol from the usual suspect suspects.
I disagree. I respect other football fans ability to draw rational conclusions from a simple game. If there's a weight of opinion against Pellegrini then there will be a real basis for that.

Had Pellegrini deliberately opted for that side then I'd give him credit. I suspect it was forced on him through injury.

Overall I would say that fans respond to results and a manager is judged simply on results obtained measured against available resources. If he goes on to take City to the Champions League semi-finals then that is a significant improvement on what was expected a few weeks ago and opinion will change

are we in the semi final or have I missed something like a 2nd leg to be played.????

this is uefa and there champions league piss pot anything can and will happen if we think we are already booked into a semi final. they (PSG) will use every trick in the book in the next week to work on the ref and the officials in the media and that big shout for a pen that they turned down in the first leg will be key and the first firing shot from them. they will want to level that none pen up come next week we are just not got any power in Europe to put the pressure on

Only this. We could win the CL and we'd get the "he's done it with Mancini's side bollocks"

Awful that a manager who could well be leading us into a CL semi final, has won three trophies in three years and has led this club with nothing but class and dignity is receiving nothing but vitriol.

Check out Marv's reply up there. I see the new way to slight Pellegrini is to say "he only picked that team because of injuries" thus diminishing literally every minute of work that went into last nights match into a case of pure happenstance. It's fucking hilarious reading this stuff. Bitter lemons all round. ;)

So I guess I'll explain
I was under the impression that a manager did more than pick the squad
The intention of the original post was to point out that the goal allowed was a mental lapse on the players behalf.
Ultimately IMO it can be a reflection of the managers style of coaching on the training ground. I think the team looks uninspired at times, and frankly bored sometimes also.
A well disciplined football team, no matter the age, doesn't have those moments.
Not to mention that moment happening in a CL quarter final
That is a fallacy. Dumb errors sometimes happen. No matter the coach his philosophies or drilling. It just does. Fernando clips that ball 2inches higher and it goes over Ibra's leg and it ends up a side note never remembered.

And to answer your rhetorical question, yes coaches do much more than just pick the team. But to ascribe a once in a bluemoon event such as this to the coach under the auspices of having a team that looks 'bored and tired' sometimes is ludicrous.

For one, it's impossible to coach against such moments. But even more importantly, the reasoning for your conclusion I.E. 'looking bored and tired sometimes,' was not a factor in this game. We looked everything BUT 'bored and tired' yesterday. So ascribing the error to a condition that wasn't present in that game, and then using that non present condition to ascribe it to the Manager seems to me, and to use your words, "too much." :)

Does he hang a string of peeled onions around his neck because those eyes are hideous

Which won't mean much if he hands a team not in the top 4 to pep,i'm sure him and khaldoon will be happy with that

More the instructions he fails to give them. Team pressing, done in spits and spats led to both of our goals but doesn't do it consistent enough as it turns into individual pressing and leaves us exposed.

Last night he had clearly told Navas to mark Matuidi, which gave Maxwell the freedom of Paris to get down that left hand side.

No idea what his instructions are on movement but its literally none existent, total opposite to PSG who had strikers dropping off, wingers coming in, full backs bombing on and midfield runners.

I say its best we could have hoped for because 8 or 9 times out of 10 we would have been 2-0 down before De Bruyne had even scored last night. We got a bit of luck which is what you need in cup competitions simple as that really.
Perhaps he does tell them and they ignore? Perhaps as games evolve players make decisions. Any way blame pell if you want. 2-2, I'd rather give him credit.

TBH, I think you'd probably find that if the owners were offered a fifth place finish this season but a guarantee they'd be in the CL final, they'd have taken it. From a financial and a profile point of view making the final trumps finishing 2/3/4th.

I doubt very much the plan was to give pep a europa league team to manage and there is no way the owner and khaldoon will be happy with that however far we get in the CL this year.We won't win the thing as we are way below at least 2 of them left in it,we are like bambi on ice at the back, any good team has beaten us so far this season

You're mental if you think the owners won't be happy with this season if we get to the CL final. Pellegrini will go with all their love and all their praise. The owners aren't stupid. It's been a very disappointing PL campaign, but it's been a weird season for the other top sides too. Simply put, the CL final trumps the PL title for them any day of the week. It might not for supporters, but it will for the owners IMO.

CL every year is what will grow us on and off the field,i can only imagine what you would say if it wasn't mp in charge, why you would be alright with that i don't know.We are still a long way from getting in this years final it's not worth considering yet,top 4 is minimum as i'm sure khaldoon will be saying if we don't make it

We've been in the CL for three years now and it hasn't really made much difference in the perception of the club overall. That's because in the main during Mancini's time we were awful in it, and during Pellegrini's time we've been okay. This season feels different and if we were to get to the final on the eve of Pep joining the club that would be something to be celebrated and it would reflect upon the manager in an incredibly favourable light because it would put the owners front and centre for the biggest game in club football.

Anyway we can agree to disagree, it's not a big deal.

He's probably had plenty of underperforming teams thrust upon him through injury this season as well, but I doubt if many people would have taken that into consideration before laying into him.

We obviously disagree
But I'm not that far out off base
Dumb mistakes are exactly what you try to prevent on the training ground and yet they still happen
Being over run in the midfield is what you try to prevent on the training ground
Knowing how many points you need to win the group against Bayern should be covered on the training ground too I guess
There ARE things that happen
I'm over the moon that we got a draw against PSG
I can't wait for Tuesday
In the meantime I will practice posting my opinions to improve clarity but more importantly alleviate dumb mistakes

Great result, no doubt about it and no matter what you think of Pelle (I think he's ineffectual and at best a facilitator - just my opinion) we are reaching heady heights I never thought I'd see.
isn't amazing how an 'ineffectual' manager can win us three trophies and take the club further than we have been in the champs league- truly amazing!
They say the mark of a good referee is when you do not notice him/her I think this might be true of a good manager too.

He may be 'ineffectual' in your eyes but I would take three trophies anytime- he deserves credit and I cannot believe the bollocks that people spout about him.
This season in particular has been exceptionally difficult -shite refereeing deciisons, plus injuries to key players have really spoilt any real planning and whilst the team have not turned up sometimes it seems this is hardly due to 'poor ' management. We all have bad days and thankfully those are far fewer than City have had for a very long time - enjoy it !!

The venom that Pellers attracts from some people on here staggers me.

He's not a clown, he's not an old ****, he's a decent manager, and he is our manager.

Yes - Pep is a massive step up - but some of the more extreme posters on here lose any credibility simply due to their one eyed obsession with slagging Pellers off at any opportunity.

Nail on feckin head

Best we could of hoped for with the instructions he gives the team, it was a good result so his gamble paid off, he also looked like he was involved in the game and adapted as the game went on.

However couldn't believe he took Silva off for Bony, Silva was growing into the game and I honestly think we could have got a third had he stayed on, PSG were looking shattered.

What were the instructions?

If you are happy I'm delighted for you. Shame those in charge can see the need for a change and can see the story and performances behind the admittedly impressive haul. That's why there is such a split in opinions.
Performance and improvement versus stats.
I'd argue the bad days have been more frequent as the tenure has gone on. Again CL excepting which is admittedly impressive.
An enigma and a conundrum our Pelle.
