Wembley 99'

Drove down the day before in the morning with 3 car loads. A City flag out of the sun roof on a stick hopin git would nto break off.
Night before on a street off Leicester Square hundreds of Blues singing on chairs. Got hammered and about 8 of us stayed in a mates house.
Greasy cafe breakfast and a hangover.
A few pubs near Wembley.
I had the shits from the night before and went to the toilet in this pub ful of City. The bastards had kicked in all the toilets and they were all smashed on the floor and about 2 inches deep in water. Went in the ladies lol.
Tears in my eyes 2 nil down moaning I had just bought my season ticket
Tears in my eyes when we won.
I didn't celebrate our first goal.Thought great a bit fxcking late.
Second goal was probably the hardest I ever celebrated.
Stayed the whole time but turned my back on every City penalty as I could not bare to watch. The faces of City behind me told me the result.
Off to Punch and Judy in Covent Gardens after and dancing in the Trafalgar Square fountains and messing about in the square. Clubs at night in London and drove back knackered but happy following day.
One of the best ever.

Very doubful its you, but a guy infront of me turned away for every penalty we took, then turned away for Butters' penalty. He saw my face and all the faces round me and we all went bonkers together. Was mad cos he was stood in front of me at the Maine Road ticket office, then ended up right infront of my at Wembley. Talking of which, that was a laugh too, queueing for tickets! I got there at half 3am and it was already round the far end of the Kippax. People were getting pissed at that time! I ended up walking to work, (which was in Hulme), and got there about half 10 that morning. A tiresome day, but well worth it.

Went with my mum and dad and a few of their friends, we stayed over in a hotel for a couple of nights I think. Don't remember a lot of the game but when we were 2 nil down I remember the feeling around the crowd and a group of young lads stood behind us smashed their chairs up and left early. I was gonna take one of the broken chairs home with me as a souveneir but was worried I might get in trouble for it as someone might think I was gonna throw it at someone

Billy Idol was a few rows in front of us IIRC, think we also saw Squeaky Mclean that day though I'm not as sure about that one. My mum predicted most of the penalties right but I dont think she could watch them at the time. I remember the buzz after and evryone dancing around as they played Status Quo rockin all over the world, it's probably the only Status Quo song I like and always reminds me of that day

Ha, Mike McClean is a mate and was with us that day!

Makes me smile so much watching that clip and deeply ashamed at the same time. When Dickov scored that 2nd I was halfway down Wembley way feeling absolutely sick. Yes I was one of THEM that left early! Needless to say we got back into the stadium in better seats than we had before and saw extra time and the penalties from right behind the goal.

I said after that I would never leave a City game early again. I never did until an FA Cup game at White Hart Lane when we were 3-0 down at half time.... HURTS, still!!!!!!
maybe u shud always leave early

bit of a blur really, got train down, laying into the gills fans on the tube with their still creased from being in the packet replica shirts, grabbed some tins from the OL bumped into daft donald so we had a drink whilst watching a few "gills" kids starting small scuffles, that wall of noise during the penalties and "stick your treble up your arse"

hahaha, yes I remember the fans like that with their shirts! Waiting for the tube we could hear the singing as it approached from the Gills fans, but then when hundreds of City fans got on, they all of a sudden shut right up!

One thing I remembered about it earlier was on the way back on the tube from Wembley. We ended up sat with this dainty, fit little student bird. Now I would fully have expected her to feel intimidated by 7 pissed up loonies from manc, however she started talking to us and it turned out she was from Didsbury. My mate, who always asks this question as an ice breaker said, 'do you spit or swallow?'. Expecting a smack in the chops he was surprised at her reaction when she said abruptly, 'I swallow every time'. She was almost offended we asked, not cos it was a rude question, but at the thought of spitting! 'I swallow every time'....HAHAHAHA!!!!

Woke up at around 6.30am and was on the road by 7.30am. It was me, mum and 2 lads who used to come into my parents newsagents regularly. Jacko was using his dad's taxi which his dad didn't know about as he was on his OSC coach. Both Jacko and Mad Mark didn't have tickets but were hoping to grab some outside Wembley. I was 14 at the time and sitting in the back of a cab with my mum having a few alcopops was a surreal experience. On the way down we hit traffic around the M6/M1 IIRC and the motorway was at a standstill, all you could see was city colours all over in cars, coaches and limo's. There was a limo infront of us with 2 blues hanging out of the sunroof, mad Mark got out of our cab and the blues in the limo started throwing us cans of Stella shouting "C'Mon City" absolute quality they were. We parked at Watford/Watford Gap for the tube which was another amazing experience. The tube was absolutely rocking full of blues and "bluemoon". A rather small bloke got on the tube to which the whole cart of our tube started shoouting "The Plane, The Plane" (Fantasy Island) pmsl. Then a stop or 2 after a late teens football fan joined us. Quite noticabe cockney so a few City fans started asking him who he supported. "Millwall" was his reply the poor poor soul. It started to get rather rowdy with blues around me saying "Have you ever had your back doors kicked in mate?" "Did you enjoy it". Next stop he got off unsurpisingly. Our stop came and it was a mad rush for a taxi from the tube station to Wembley. I remember getting out and just standing in amazement at the sea of blue walking down Wembley Way, an image that will stay with me for life. We left Jacko and Mark outside our entrance to look for tickets as we went into Wembley. I remember the atmosphere building as we all sang the National Anthem and then Russell Watson began to sing Nessun Dorma. Me and my Mum got on Sky as he was finishing the song, me kissing my badge and my mum waving our flag. I was literally on the 1st row right behind the goal where our goals went in and penalties won. Much of the game passed by as my nails got shorter and shorter, my arse getting closer to the edge of my seat. Constantly up and down, singing and screaming City on. Gillinghams first went in and i was gutted, then the second and it felt my the whole world had collapsed around me, so many blues but i felt so alone. The steward infront of us saw me crying and he was saying that it was ok and that City were going to do it. "Bollocks" i thought, and oh how i was wrong. Horlock scored and the belief started coursing through me, my voice getting squeakier and squeakier with passion to try and drive the boys on. The steward still saying city were going to do it. Long ball pumped up, flicked on to Goater who's about to shoot but is tackled, ball falls to Dickov, i feel the whole stand around me building with anticipation, Bang, top corner. He's done it, me and my mum going mental with blues around us, kissing grown men and hugging people i had never even met before. Quality times. At the point of all the City fans rushing back in Jacko and Mark managed to sneak in and watched the Extra Time and penalties. It was an amazing day, 1 that will live with me forever. It was topped off on the way home, having a piss with a long line of blues on the M1 hardshoulder with all cars, coaches, lorries etc beeping at us and shouting

I had the biggest tantrum ever when Gillingham got their first.

Dickov, 94.

I must of been about 6-7, went down on the train with my dad and rest of the family. Stayed at a hotel somewhere near regents park i think but don't have a clue what it was called. The actual day though i can't remember much of, just the shitty seats and the size of the place. Left when they scored the second then we got our 1st just as we were leaving.. Heard a roar 2 mins later just as we got out and we were stood outside with some bloke on his phone to his wife saying "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS 2-2", ran back and managed to get back inside for extra time don't ask me how.. Watching us take those penalties was still the most nerve wrecking moment of my life so far i literally couldn't watch... couldn't see anyway haha everyone was stood up. Can remember the tube back and although it was mixed fans everyone was in good spirits absolute quality day out. Still have my flag which is still covered in mud because during the penalties i dropped it without noticing and kept standing on it.
