Were you wrong about Pep?

It pissed me off hugely last season having to fight Guardiola’s cause when he continued to play his way despite the media and even City fans essentially saying he didn’t know what he was doing when to me it was blatantly obvious. I said on multiple occasions to much slagging off on here that we had to sacrifice the results last season at times for the long term good of the team in the development and acclimatisation to Pep’s style and tactics.

I always knew we were onto something special but fucking hell he’s surprised me, I never knew football could be this good, I still don’t fully believe what we’re seeing and still sit there most weeks in awe of what we’re privileged to watch.

My own reservations last year were his continued use of Yaya and Kolarov, I didn’t understand it then and I still don’t now. Even though neither did anything wrong as such, it was just obvious they didn’t do or weren’t capable of doing the basics like presssing high, certainly not with the intensity we’re seeing this season. That made the team as a whole worse in my head but I suppose he didn’t have a choice with Stones inconsistency, Fernandinho’s being needed at fullback and Gundogan’s injury.

I did absolutely. I never lost belief in him but I felt he needed to adapt to certain games and have plan Bs. It’s evident his ways work with better players and we are seeing the results. For me personally I was just annoyed with 1. The way we started the season and fizzled out and 2. We was told the last two years of Pellers was shit as we was preparing for Pep. Was then annoying we kind of had a dead first year too. Impatience more than anything.

I found some decisions naive last season and I was disappointed we didn’t win at least something. Putting the weakened team out at Old Trafford in the League Cup was disappointing too.

At the end of the day, we’ve only won the minority domestic cup. No Premier League (yet) and there’s still Europe to conquer.

I’d like to retain the title at some point. Defend what is ours. The surrenders after previous wins still sting.

I still haven't changed my opinion of him, I knew once we had top players in each spot that Pep would have us playing amazing football, the evidence was in everyone's face. I knew we would win the premier league this season when I saw the transfers coming in, this is prime pep ball.

But... I still have expectations on youth integration and I believe Pep can do more and hoped he would do more since the beginning of the season. Next season I'd like to see more youth integration and bringing in some loanees for cover instead of buying much more.

If we buy next summer I hope we don't bring in more than 1 or 2 players MAX, loan out Diaz and Nmecha, bring in guys like Maffeo, Celina or Roberts. I want to see a pathway from loan -> first team, hope he can do it.
