It pissed me off hugely last season having to fight Guardiola’s cause when he continued to play his way despite the media and even City fans essentially saying he didn’t know what he was doing when to me it was blatantly obvious. I said on multiple occasions to much slagging off on here that we had to sacrifice the results last season at times for the long term good of the team in the development and acclimatisation to Pep’s style and tactics.
I always knew we were onto something special but fucking hell he’s surprised me, I never knew football could be this good, I still don’t fully believe what we’re seeing and still sit there most weeks in awe of what we’re privileged to watch.
My own reservations last year were his continued use of Yaya and Kolarov, I didn’t understand it then and I still don’t now. Even though neither did anything wrong as such, it was just obvious they didn’t do or weren’t capable of doing the basics like presssing high, certainly not with the intensity we’re seeing this season. That made the team as a whole worse in my head but I suppose he didn’t have a choice with Stones inconsistency, Fernandinho’s being needed at fullback and Gundogan’s injury.
